Post-First Draft Goals (Finally!)

Well, the laptop is rebuilt with a new virus and malware checker.  I’m also using ‘Dropbox’ to back up my work on a Cloud-like system.  Using this I rewrote the final chapters of ‘Merchant of Nevra Coil’.  I noticed that I got more done and was more relaxed working on a desktop, but I think it was because I felt like I was in an office.  There was also extra support around here since I was fixing a disaster instead of doing something fresh.

My ‘vacation’ starts this week, but it’s really me waiting for the edits on ‘The Compass Key’.  That gets done and then I format, write the blurbs, and wait for the cover art.  I’ll even set everything up early on Amazon Kindle, so I don’t have to worry about it in the last second.  Aiming for early August release like August 1st, which is doable.  Once all that gets done, I’m going to tackle edits on Books 6-8 if no other reason than to get the stories locked more in my head.

The toddler has Friday and the following Monday off, so I’m not going to be leaping into any projects.  Then we have July 4th and family visiting for a few days.  I might not tackle the editing project until after all that.  So, what will I do?  Read, flush out some future ideas, blog, and relax.  There are a lot of small things that I can get done and not feeling rushed helps. I know a lot of these things sound like work, but I love designing characters and stories.  It’s what kept me sane for so many years while I worked in retail and office jobs.

BIG REMINDER!  This week is the ‘Villain Teaser Excerpts’.  The first appearances of the several villains that culminates in the BLOG DEBUT of the Big Baddie!  As usual, I’ve tried my best to edit down the scene to be more of a teaser than a spoiler.  Enjoy and I’ll do my post to crawl out of bed to reply to comments.  Seriously, I have nothing really on my plate this week and can be a slacker.

Charles’s Version of Slacker Goals:

  1. Check out the new supermarket down the road.
  2. Continue reading ‘My GRL’ by John W. Howell.  If I finish it then I’ll start Ranger’s Apprentice #10.
  3. Create characters, locations, and plot overviews for ‘The Elysium Saga’.
  4. Jot down notes for new Clyde book and new Darwin book to add to series when I finish #3.
  5. Watch more of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.
  6. Keep watching World Cup Soccer.
  7. Entertain toddler on Friday with playground, Barnes & Noble, and maybe some frozen yogurt for lunch.
  8. Set up my interview for Readfulthings before I sleep tonight.
  9. Watch ‘The Wolverine’.
  10. Buy more seltzer.
  11. Do stuff that I didn’t think of while writing this list.
  12. Rewrite the outline for Book 9 if I go through Legends of Windemere withdrawal.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  2. I really like the seltzer goal. What would a person do without seltzer? Oh yes, liked number 2 as well. I’m working the Readfulthings interview as well. Have a great week

Checking out a new supermarket is always fun. I didn’t see anything in this post about pizza. I want to read My GRL soon too.

You’re a busy, busy, busy man, Charles. Editing’s such a process! BTW, I have yet to see Wolverine, too. Not sure when I’ll get around to see it!

I’m so happy all of that horrible crashing episode has passed. If not a vacation, you’ll have some breathing room.

Wow. You make me feel lazy! It’s true what they say: the more you do, the more you can get done. Glad you took a little time to watch The Wolverine. Loved it! Last week I watched the behind the scenes on that one.

    • I caught it on HBO, so I didn’t have any fun background stuff. 😦 Funny thing with that goal list is that I’m already not wanting to do anything. I think part of it is now that I finished reading ‘My GRL’, I will tackle the final book of Ranger’s Apprentice. Kind of don’t want to see that series end.
