First, a look at how Family of the Tri-Rune has done in the first week:
Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #4,414 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)
- #34 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Literature & Fiction > Action & Adventure > Fantasy
- #38 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Fantasy > Sword & Sorcery
- #81 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Fantasy > Epic
Sadly the other three books aren’t doing very well. Prodigy of Rainbow Tower is especially bad in the 100,000 area, which is a shame because that’s my favorite one. One thing I’ve realized is that it isn’t so much amount of sales, but rate of sales. They kind of go hand-in-hand, but rate appears to be the more important part. A book that is slow for a while and gets a surge will leap up the rankings. The problem is that this creates a rather big fall because the bigger the surge, the harder it is to maintain. At least for us Indie Authors. Since book 5 shows up in late July/early August, I’m going to be working really hard to keep some momentum.
Family of the Tri-Rune is on Goodreads even though I’m not the one who set it up there.
So, the goals of the week since nothing else really happened:
- Continue writing Sleeper of the Wildwood Fugue and hope to finish it by middle of following week. Unless I pull off a few 3 section days, it won’t happen by next Saturday.
- Parent/teacher meeting on Tuesday.
- Outline more of Elysium Saga, but this will probably be the ‘between books’ project to get me through my birthday and the beginning of Passover. No sense in starting the new book with those events looming.
- Redo the outline for Book 8 because it’s a little muddled. Though I’m better about the action figures.
- Sleep, eat, and shower to retain human appearance and heartbeat.
- Duck and cover because I have a few posts this week about the difference between author and reader perceptions. Just because you write it one way, doesn’t mean the reader will see it that way.

Just don’t forget #5 no matter what else happens

That’s always the tricky part.

Looking forward to the articles!
Hang in there and drink from my energy to survive the birthday lunacy! 🙂

Well, I have another 2 weeks before the birthday. April 9th. Passover is going to be the crazy part.

Even the mere approach of it can happen to be very burdening, at least from my experience.

I don’t really do anything for it. My birthday is kind of ‘meh’ in my mind. Movie and lunch with the wife and I snag a day to go into NYC to chill with a friend. Low key and some time away from the family tend to be my goals.

Out of 3,000,000 plus books on Amazon, 100,000 doesn’t sound so bad, but understand what you are saying. Don’t forget your ale ration.

Good point. It will hit the point where I need fewer sales of the book for it to get a boost. Though, I’m having more and more trouble promoting the earlier books. The danger of a series that goes beyond 3, I guess.

Ad in the New York Times would solve all the problems. ($50,000)

That’s it? I’ve got that much in the bank. Well, not so much my money. There’s a bank and I own a crowbar.

Watching those numbers is so aggravating — yet we can’t look away! Pretty great in the Fantasy and Sword/Sorcery categories, though. Congrats!
Do try to keep showering. You don’t want to lose the allegiance of your loved ones…

Thanks. It’s a rough category.
Now I have an idea to get my loved ones to leave me alone when I want to get writing done. 🙂

I guess, I’m the lucky one then since I haven’t had to watch mine. They don’t do much! lol I just enjoyed the whole experience of creating, writing, and publishing. I know for you it is very different since this is your job and your passion! Here’s hoping that the numbers will get better and better!!

They’re still moving. Thankfully, the other 3 have begun selling again. Things might be slow until April hits.

Hope to see that momentum rebound and last. 🙂 I’m really enjoying Book 2 right now, more than halfway through. Nyx and the dragons are my favorites.

Even as I write the 7th book, I find myself gravitating toward doing a lot with Nyx. I’m starting to feel like it’s more her story than anyone else.

The Tri-Rune stats are great, Charles! Congratulations! Perhaps, as people read that one, they will buy previous ones.
…”Just because you write it one way, doesn’t mean the reader will see it that way.” I find that especially true in poetry. I look forward to these posts.
