This is one of my lesser works that I’ve been fiddling with when I get in the mood.  It involves a winged elf named Guinevere Archer.  Her family has been cursed by a shaman whose daughter was taken by their slave trading company.  Each member of the family has lost the one they hold most dear.  In order for an individual to break the curse, he or she must find 100 lost people and return them home.  The trick here is that they have to be asked to find the person, so most of the family members haven’t bothered.  Guinevere is the only one putting effort in because she wants her lover back.  Oh yeah, her lover is female.  Also, she uses a whip and shield combination to give her a non-lethal fighting style.

At least that was one of the options.  I was going to start the story with her nearing the end of the 100 and then her family tries to stop her out of jealousy or steal her effort through magic.  I ended up creating an alternate, which is the following:

Her family had a ruin raiding/relic stealing business and they killed the shaman (who sticks around as a ghost haunting Guinevere) to get her relic.  The same type of curse, but they have to solve 7-8 great mysteries of Windemere to break the curse.  For example, the secret of the Mother Mountain found way out at sea or why strange shadow creatures are appearing in Gaia.  The last mystery will revolve around the shaman’s relic and put her up against her family.

I’m rather torn here and was setting to have her debut alongside Brian Hunter in one of the Sin books.  So, I’m obviously considering a change to her surname since Hunter and Archer debuting at the same time seems odd.  The first idea makes for an interesting idea, but can get repetitive beyond one or two books.  The second idea is more adventuresome and explores some of the parts of Windemere that I can’t fit into other series.

Any thoughts?

    I think there is also room for a kick ass female. You never cease to amaze me.

    Actually, i see nothing wrong with having Archer and Hunter in the same book. It would make for interesting dialogue. Of course now I can’t stop thinking of the name Bowman (though she’s a bow woman). 😀
    So Guinevere and her family wouldn’t sing together at the piano at Christmastime, it seems. The family fight sounds like an interesting dynamic.

      One of the interesting things was going to be Hunter hitting on Archer and she’s not interested. I can make jokes about her using a whip instead of a bow too, but probably only once.

      I need to flush out the family fight because it might only really come into play in her final book when they try to do something. I think the fact that she’s the only one in the family trying to break the curse and get her loved one back is rather telling about the rest.
