Do cats believe
They are the chosen
Because their claws retract
Do giraffes believe
They are Earth’s center
Because they have the longest necks
Do spiders believe
They are God’s favorite
Because they can spin webs
Why do humans believe
They are the highest form
When they lack what others have
We brag about our minds
They are the most evolved
Dividing us from the faunal rabble
Yet does this make us higher
Than the stronger bear
Or the faster hummingbird
We can change our world
Which we typically destroy
Believing we have the holy right
Our fanatic actions
In the name of human need
Cause harm to the global garden
So why are we superior
When in countless ways
We are naturally inferior
Do all animals believe
They are the chosen species
Because this thought is a simple fact of living?

Preach! Preach! Great poem Charles.

Thanks. It’s one of my older ones that I stumbled onto. Hardest part was finding a good video.

When all the reports came out about cockroaches being the only creatures who could survive a nuclear annihilation, I felt pretty small.

I’ve actually been told that the cockroach isn’t the one that would survive. Something about the original test being faulty, but the urban legend living on. There are other insects that can handle radiation better than them. The best survivor for radiation is a bacteria that I forget the name of. Though, it being a bacteria probably doesn’t help the feeling of smallness.
(This all comes from having a lot of science-based friends.)

Gee, you’re right, bacteria is worse, I feel smaller now.

Think of it this way. Bacteria have no way of reading a book, driving a car, or applying for a credit card. We beat them on those things and more. 🙂

I’ve known several cats very well, and they definitely know they are the favorites. I’m not sure if it’s the retractable claws, though…

They’re furry divas. Many of my family members are allergic, so I don’t have much in the way of feline experience.

I love this piece, it speaks volumes about the arrogance of the human species. Well said.

Thanks. We’re definitely an egotistical species.

Of course we do have a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’, but the chosen species are cats and dolphins …humans come much lower on the evolutionary scales. They are a very distructive species sooner or later the creators will debug the system…

I’ve heard dolphins, but not cats. Though, it does seem cats are masters of getting humans to do what they want. Probably something to that. Better to be in charge and nobody knows you’re in charge.
