Slight Change of Plans

Now, I’m still working on figuring out ways to hype Prodigy of Rainbow Tower.  So far the character and city poems are working as is the gathering of people for the July 31st blog blitz.  Although, I do have a question on that:

Should the blog blitz with cover art, description, Beginning of a Hero link, and other info be done on July 31st when the book debuts or July 30th BEFORE the book debuts?

Speaking of questions, I think this week has shown me an avenue of posting that I didn’t consider before.  Debate questions that relate to the book.  I already know that I can do one on sequels, magic, rivalries, character development, journeys, ‘the spotlight’, demons, and other topics.  I would do a debate question and my own answer every day starting this Monday.  Get people talking and interested in what this book is going to be about.

First question, when Hermione and Harry use that time turner in the third movie, how do they know that nobody is going to be in the infirmary when they appear?  I would think that would be an incredibly busy place.  The movie is on behind me and I just realized how odd that is.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. I think the blog blitz should be on the 30th.

Personally, I would do it the same day as people can just link to the site and readily buy the book. But what do I know, I had not learned anything about pre-marketing when I first published my book. I will being doing my next work tremendously differently.

    • That was the original plan, but I started to wonder what would happen if people make the posts and forget the Amazon link. All I have is a Goodreads link. I have a lot to think about. I’m going to see what the consensus is and consider everything.

I was waiting a little closer to the date, maybe even on the date to plug you on facebook and twitter… but do you want me to link to your blog or is there somewhere else you want me to link, like where the book can be bought? Please keep in mind I’m not that internet savvy so I might have to get you to provide me the link

    • I would do the plug on the day it comes out. All I have is a Goodreads sight, which is for reviews and not sales. I won’t have an Amazon site until the book goes live on the 31st. That’s what is making me wonder about the date to do this. If I do the 31st then people can grab the Amazon site.

On the other hand, the 30th can give the first book a boost to prepare people. This is all so confusing.

I will do a double blitz then one for the first book the day before release…the second when you have your Amazon site how does that sound…

  5. At least the day of, because everyone gets busy they need that reminder. Hmm, that day before, they are ready, they click, it’s not ready yet, will they try again next time? Perhaps if the preview is very clear about it being just a heads up. Will the repetition have any negative effect? It’s much easier to list pros and cons than to decide correctly. 🙂

    • It certainly is. The hard part with the day of is that the Amazon site won’t be up until the 31st. I was thinking of having the blog blitz the night before. Like having people set it for midnight of the 30th because the site will go live while I’m asleep. They may get it when the site is open and I’ll be sending people to the Goodreads site and the first book’s site.

Then on the 31st I make the first post of the day a big ‘It’s here!’ post. I’m going to ask that the title make it clear that the book is debuting on the 31st. Good call on that one.

  6. Dumbledore locks the door behind him, and they appear pretty much the same time they disappear, so the door is only locked for a few moments. As for the infirmary being busy…from the books, the only characters that seem to be there often are Harry & co. Most of the time, it only gets busy if something happens (like in the second book when students are petrified.)

    • I was wondering about that. You’d think it would be a lot busier in a school where children are using magic. Especially with the explode-y kid.

      • That was more for the film. I can’t remember how much things exploded around him in the book, but most of it seemed pretty contained. And yeah, I guess if things go wrong in class you’ve got the teachers on hand to help things before they get out of hand. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of Quidditch injuries, either, except for Harry. It might just be a case that though they might get hurt with magic, they can probably use it as easily to heal.

I think it would be a huge mistake if you did the blitz on the 30th.

Take it from me, and I absolutely HATE IT when I’m reading a post on a blog about an upcoming book to only find out that the book hasn’t even come out yet.

And when it does, I’ve already forgotten it. You’ll be better off with “impulse buying”.

But then again, your blitz is only a day’s difference, so it wouldn’t make a huge dent.

But still, I would make sure the book is LIVE before the blitz begin.

    That’s just my 2 cents.

    • That’s where I’m torn. When it goes live, I’ll be done all the website advertising. I’m aiming for the blog blitz to strike the night before, so the posts will be up as the book is in review. That way I’ll have some advertising going on while I’m asleep and the book goes live.

I don’t know. It’s all experimentation, I guess. I’ll see how it goes this time and if it doesn’t work, I’ll go for the day of release on the third book. I have more faith in this book being successful than the first because of my momentum.
