Goals for the Week! Not an Original Title

First, I just realized I made the category ‘Goal Posts’.  That’s a laugh I needed.
It’s been a rough day with a family health scare that is still going on.  What the hell, I’ll say it.  My 102-year-old grandmother is in the ER getting checked out.  I had to drop everything to drive her information to my parents.  So, it’s been a rough day in that respect.

In other less important news, my iPod of 11 years has died the final death.  No coming back from this one.  So, I got a new one at discount and it’s synching and charging (I think) as I type.  No idea how this thing is supposed to charge without a bulky charger.  Shaddup, youngsters!

So, here are the goals for the coming week:

  1. Write 2 chapters of ‘The Compass Key’.  This is going to be a lot harder because I lose Monday and part of Tuesday.
  2. Start planning ‘The Slumber Wars’.
  3. Read more of ‘Shadows Over Sheradan’.
  4. See what can be done about my son’s situation.  Can’t say anything more than that.
  5. Promote ‘Beginning of a Hero’ and ‘Bestiary of Blatherhorn Vale’.  Bestiary is going to get a morning tweet and that’s it.
  6. Contact cover artist for an up-date on ‘Prodigy of Rainbow Tower’.  If history repeats itself, he’ll contact me within a day or two of me typing this.
  7. Try to remember the story idea I had this morning that got wiped out by the chaos of the cover art issue.  I think it had to do with two sorceress sisters that are at war and a demon gets involved.  Thinking that they switch good and evil within the book because of lost souls or something.  All I know is that ending is stuck in my head when the sisters defeat the demon and the one that started as good just turns and kills the other in one emotionless shot.
  8. Get back to writing Character Origins, including those heroes that haven’t shown up yet.  I figure it’s fine to reveal the heroes and the more important thing is to see them follow their path

Those are my goals and most of them are rather minor.  The hardest one is going to be #1.

When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

Concerning your goal post, let us know if you score. 😉

    • Hopefully, 8 out of 8. Though, #7 is going to be a challenge because I won’t know if I grabbed the right idea out of the ether.

Fingers crossed that she’s going to be as okay as 102-year-old person can be.

As for your goals… you make me want to start posting goals and smashing them just for a bit of competition. 😉

Oh, and don’t worry, tiny chargers work just as good, if not better, than those big, clunky old things! 😉

  7. First of all I hope your grandma gets well soon and you can sort #4 easily, whatever it is!
Said that, wow! I wish I could set so many goals in a week! Actually I wish I can organize myself! I have to try harder but I suck in organizing! And I got easily distracted!
And you’re idea sound so good even as it is!

    • Thanks. #4 is definitely going to be a pain. It might handed off to my wife more than me because crazy mother seems to trump angry father.

I’m hoping to flush out a few of the ideas rattling around in my brain. There might be a few of them in there, so I just need a note pad to jot them down. Wondering if I should write another non-Windemere story about a group of aliens.

      • Well jot them down than close them in a drawer and take them out after a while! It works miracle! I always walk around with a notebook, even in work! My works colleagues are used to it now! And if I’m standing at the door I write ideas on my hand. My colleagues are used to that too! I’m weird, but I’m not going to miss another idea!

      • It’s more about finding the time to jot them down and flush them out. Not a big fan of tossing them in a drawer though. I’ve lost a lot that way, so I keep all my notebooks in the open.

When I worked outside the house, I always had a notebook and it went smoothly. Being the in-house worker has a differently level of distractions and chaos. Probably just me, but colleagues were understanding when I’d jot a quick idea down. Family not so much.

      • I can’t complain about my partner to be honest! He’s doing great!!!! But yes in the house you have loads of distraction!

      • My partner is fine. We live with my parents as well (long story), which is where the issues come in. I come from a practical family, so getting unyielding support from the family requires me to make a living off it.

      • Don’t add details, I think I got the whole! We live alone, but still I can hear them… and I have a day job that is just sucking my mental stability!

      • Had one of those and left before it took a permanent toll. It’s a dangerous world for artists.

      • I know but the mortgage is still to be paid and bills and baby stuff…you got it, right?!!!

      • As much as I understand that, there is a limit. Taking a job to pay for everything at the expense of one’s sanity isn’t for me. After that job, I jumped from one temp job to another with no stability. So, my wife (who is luckier with jobs) took the other path and I’ve settled into being the cook, maid, and author. Don’t have a mortgage or many bills to worry about. Things are tougher, but I’m no longer thinking about driving off an overpass on my way to work.

      • I can see your point and actually it’s nice! I wish I could, but as the things are now, I don’t see it possible for me! But I agree with you on the sanity point! So I try to convince myself to pick the good side of it, like many people to observe to get inspiration for characters or blog posts and so on!

      • I tried, but this job made it impossible. Truthfully, what I’m doing is a risk and it depends on a few outside forces to work. I’ve done well so far, but I need more books out to keep things moving. The risk is what has the family against me at times. They don’t think I should be taking such a risk and I should wait for ‘the perfect moment’.

      • That’s what I argue with my family about most of the time! I admire people who take this risk! My best friend is a drummer and is doing the same. You have no idea how many times I have to difend him from my family! They support me but the way it is! I see it as a shame, they see it as the right way to do this! I hope I’ll be lucky one day!

      • You will be. Just have to look for that opportunity. I saw not getting a stable job as an opportunity to make a run for the writing dream.

We all need to make a category Goal Posts. Actually we all need to make some Goals. I know there must be all kinds of courses/books etc written on goal setting. I don’t remember ever really being taught to articulate or formulate a goal. And I for sure didn’t instill in my kids to make a goal. lol
I just said, “Thou shalt make thy bed daily.”
    The best to your grandmother.
