I’ve realized that Luke Callindor repeats an action in every book. It isn’t as dramatic in the 4th book, but it is there. This is the last minute, wild rescue in a time where tension is starting to rise. The tension of a scene is hitting its high mark and the reader isn’t sure what is going to happen. Someone might die and the villains might win.
Luke swoops, leaps, dives, drops, or steps into the scene with a level of confidence that tends to fade away soon after. At first, I thought this was a major mistake on my part, but I think it’s Luke. There is a hero in him somewhere. He’s simply young and still working on getting experience. This is really a glimpse of the character he really is.
So, have you ever had a character that occasionally shows a hint of what they are going to become? Do you have characters that have a signature scene or move?

I have characters that repeatedly act like douches, but I think that’s just me.

We’ll say it counts and wait for karma to get them.

Definitely. I think of those repeat actions as trademark moves. It makes me feel better.

I like that phrase. I’m guessing you’ve trademarked the term.

Free license for you. 399.99 a year for everyone else. We have to build the empire somehow.

A Death Star costs a lot of money. Even more if we want it to work and have a damn hinged lid on the exhaust vent.

I will look it up on amazon. You go hit ebay. There is a lesson to be learned from cheap bastards like me. 🙂

Craig’s List has to have a few Death Stars. That’s probably where they got the second one from anyway. Where else would you get a half-finished doomsday weapon?

I like the word Ionia used, “trademark moves.” And yes, my characters often have them. I think it makes them “real” since we tend to respond to certain situations in similar ways repeatedly. I’m not exciting like Luke…I just twirl my hair! 🙂

True. Everyone has tics. I bite my lower lip and run a hand through my hair without realizing it. That combo sounds oddly familiar though.

I think our “tics” make it into many of our stories in one character or another 🙂

True. Nyx definitely has the hair thing. Nobody has claimed my lip biting yet. I think the hair and lip thing is rather common in real life too.

Hmmm, my MC doesn’t have one. I need to fix that.
Question: does hiding under the bed count as a signature move for a sorcerer turned squirrel?

If he/she does it more than once, I say yes.

Yep. He’s worse than my cats about hiding under the bed. 🙂

How does he carry the bed around?

Ha! My MC has a messenger bag he hides in when there’s no bed available.
