Thank you to Oloriel for helping to spread the word that Legends of Windemere: Beginning of a Hero is now free.  Now I’m here to talk about a difficult topic for authors, which is listening to critics and sticking to your guns.

Questions 3: Preparing for Tribe of the Snow Tiger

Futurama

Futurama

With the secret project up and running, I’ve got to set my sights on the next project.  If you haven’t heard Beginning of a Hero is free now.  You might be noticing that I’m also starting to hype Tribe of the Snow Tiger, which is Book 10 of Legends of Windemere.  That means I need to get volunteers for this.

Now, nearly everyone who volunteered for the secret project also said they would like to help with this.  For that I am thankful and hope you keep reading to hear about what I’m planning.  Feedback would be good too because I’m not exactly sure what I’m doing here, which is business as usual.

I’m going to have the ‘Book is Live’ post as usual.  Those help out with the initial boost, but I’m trying to think of other blog tricks.  Blogging is my strongest promotional weapon, especially since I don’t have a lot of marketing funds.  So I want to do guest posts that connect to the story too.  The thing is that I don’t want to take over blogs a bunch in one week, so I’m not sure exactly how to do this.  So I’m leaving it up to volunteers to decide what they get.

  1. Would you be willing to host a ‘book is live’ post for Tribe of the Snow Tiger?
  2. Would you want a guest post as well or instead?
  3. Do you think I should drop Crossing Bedlam to 99 cents?

I know this is an odd way of doing it, but I wanted to get the ball rolling here.  For anyone who wants a guest post, we can discuss a topic in the comments or by email.  The book deals with Timoran, heroes splitting up, barbarians, honor, Queen Trinity, the chaos elves, grief, and rivalries.  That’s really all I can do without going too far.

Great book deals!

After so many months of zero book promotion I decided that it’s time to give my scribbles a tiny party. As always, life always finds it amusing to toss me a curve ball just when I’m getting ready to rock something. This time though, it’s tossed me something really interesting as well, and quite cool to know. I won’t bore anyone with the details of this particular life trip wire, suffice it to say that I stomped it nicely so it’s out of the way. The thing with the promotion is what’s interesting. I discovered too late that with PayPal in this country you can’t just spend what’s deposited in your account. No. You have to first transfer PayPal earnings to your South African bank account, and then you have to transfer whatever you want to spend back to PayPal from your South African bank account. Lovely way to make…

Hoist the colors, on Lisa Burton Radio

coldhandboyack's avatarEntertaining Stories

Arrrrgh, maties, hoist the mainsail and get ready for some serious pirating. This is Lisa Burton Radio, and we’re about to sail the seven seas for adventure. I’m your host, Lisa the robot girl.

Today’s show is sponsored by The Razor’s Adventures Pirate Tales, by P. S. Bartlett and specifically, AMBER WAKE – Gabriel Falling by P.S. Bartlett and Ronovan Hester.

Our guest is Gabriel Wallace, but he’s also known as Rasmussen “Big Red” Bergman. Isn’t that cool?

“Welcome to the show, Big Red, or would you prefer something else?”

“Hello lass. Please call me Rasmus or Razz. I’m pleased to join you, although I’ve no idea what a radio is.”

“Razz it is then. My bio says you were a Captain in the Royal Navy. That’s kind of a big deal. How the heck does someone with all that going for them become a pirate?”

“Well, that’s easier…

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: CHARLES E. YALLOWITZ

Thank you Wendell for helping to promote Legends of Windemere: Beginning of a Hero, which will now be available for free. Looking back at the first book of my series, I’ve beginningofaheropicked up on how it’s become darker. Yet there’s still some humor in there to prevent things from going entirely over the edge.

When Luke Callindor’s adventures started, he would stumble into comical situations and there was a joking comradery with his friends. This was definitely a lighthearted YA romp full of action and amusement. Beginning of a Hero had some emotional and semi-dark events, which usually involved the Lich or the Hellfire Elf. Still, even the bad guys had the occasional moment of levity. The book was definitely a different beast than the later ones.

I’m not sure when things changed so much, but I’m pretty sure it can be blamed on a certain villain showing up in…

Hey everyone!

This is a guest post to promote the fact that the first book in the Legends of Windemere series has been made permanently free.

So grab yourself a copy, and curl up to this delightful treat! I will let Charles take it away from here.

Thank you to Cyrus for helping to spread the word that Legends of Windemere: Beginning of a Hero is now free.  Back when I started publishing this fantasy series in 2013, it was the only genre I was working in.  Now, I’ve branched out into Rated-R dystopian adventures with a lot of action and humor.  That book is called Crossing Bedlam and I’ve been asked to talk about what it’s like to write such different types of stories.

First, you need to know what each one is about.  Beginning of a Hero follows Luke Callindor, a young warrior from a famous family…

Timoran Wrath Revisited

Timoran Wrath by Jason Pedersen

Timoran Wrath by Jason Pedersen

He debuted in Prodigy of Rainbow Tower and got his push to main cast in Family of the Tri-Rune.  Since then, Timoran Wrath has been the stable source of physical strength and wisdom among the champions.  He has had several moments to shine, but most of the adventures focus more on one of the others.  Until the upcoming release entitled Tribe of the Snow Tiger.  His secret past is about to be exposed and saying any more could be a spoiler.

The odd thing about Timoran is that he’s a lot of fun to write and I love putting him into scenes.  Yet, he isn’t a show stealer or a constant presence.  The strange thing about Timoran is that I feel like him saying only one line in a scene works for his character.  He is a barbarian, but he isn’t the loud, boisterous brute.  Like Delvin, he does a lot of thinking before speaking.  The difference is that Delvin is a tactician and Timoran is merely a good listener with wise insight.  So he tends to speak when he feels the others are distracted, starting to fight, or he has a way to bring the conversation to a sensible conclusion.  He does seem to function better in one-on-one or small group chats due to his mild persona getting overshadowed by some of the others.

That right there is strange for a character I have listed as a barbarian.  Timoran never seems to have the temperament, which I’ll explain when I delve into how Windemere barbarians operate.  Now, part of this might be because of what happened in the game that the series is based on.  Timoran started as an NPC with the wise, strong, and helpful persona you see in the book.  Then a new player took him over and kept it going for a little while.  At some point, he decided that drinking was his most common activity and the character got shaky.  One scene in particular was in one of the temples where Timoran bolted from the group to reach the wine cellar first and drink a rare type that he was told about.  Needless to say, I stuck with the original model and people seem to enjoy that version.

So, what does the upcoming adventure mean for Timoran?  Much like The Mercenary Prince did for Delvin, this is a big push for Timoran.  He will be in the center and much of his past will be revealed.  Once this adventure is done, he won’t be the same and will have to adapt to his new role.  Keep one thing in mind that Timoran has been cruising on his opening skill set since the beginning.  He’ll have to discover some new tricks that might not always be battle-based.  This is not the only thing though because he still stands as the most mature and stable of the champions.  So his challenges will differ from the others in that he’ll need to fall, come back up, and then realize that his life has a new level for him to reach.

Honestly, I’m really looking forward to seeing how people take to this because Timoran’s adventure has been a long time coming.  Fingers crossed that I can release it in May.
