Poetry Month: The Merchant of Nevra Coil #fantasy #adventure

Cover art by Jason Pedersen

Champion faces
Etched in newest stone
Flowing from a city
That gazes from above
And houses genius
With a touch of madness
Yet all of them pale
In the face of a goddess
Cloaked in delicious chaos
Her flickering anger
Leading
To
Insanity

Fractured Fairy Tales (Queen Titania’s Court)

DebyFredericks's avatarWyrmflight

Please join me in welcoming novelist Alma Alexander. Her featured character is Aris the Gleeman, from her anthology, Fractured Fairy Tales.

Aris stood just inside the door of the great hall, clutching his harp against his ribs, half concealed by the gleeman’s motley cloak. He watched a woman glittering with diamonds sink into a deep curtsey as she was presented; then what was obviously a family, a proud father cuffing the youngest son into a proper bow when the moment came. They, and others, came away from their presentations, and Aris could see the glow on their faces. They belonged here. They clearly did. Aris himself? It was the old story. He ran from magic, and magic always chased him back, and caught him. He had no idea how the invitation to this ball had come to him — but it was the sort of invitation one did not…

Investigation in Nottingham (Queen Titania’s Court)

Everyone please welcome Astrid Brandon and her character Thurid Sevriens, from the fantasy/mystery series, Mysteries of the Astral. This is an own-voices tale for young adults.

Character Questions

Are you an insider or an outsider in your homeland? I’d say outsider. Being autistic in America, I feel so… unwanted sometimes, y’know? And now that I have these weird powers, great! I’m even more of an outsider.

Who is your closest friend? Before I met Avery, Murtagh was my best friend. Still is. I have multiple besties. Them, Erzulie, and now Avery. Don’t make me choose!

Author Questions

Is there something you wish you had done differently with your craft? I wish I had gone through my manuscript at least one more time before I published it. It’s good, but after months have passed, I wish I had sat down with it one more time.

Why do you write? I…

Poetry Month: Sleeper of the Wildwood Fugue #fantasy #adventure

Art by Jason Pedersen

A quiet voice
Beckoning from dreams
Wrapped in mist
Hungering for time
Her awakening
Fills the champion ranks
Reviving a feud
That unleashes immortal fury
On a hero’s heart
And hurls a prodigy
To their hidden truth

Cover Art by Jason Pedersen

A sickness in the air
Demonic in nature
Seeping into the flesh
And souls
Of those embraced by winds
At the cusp of destiny
One champion suffers
Every breath
Step
And word
Tinged with sapping agony
His friends will fight
To share his pain
Giving him time
While the Dark Wind spreads

Poetry Month: The Compass Key #fantasy #adventure

Cover Art by Jason Pedersen

Destiny erupts
As battles explode
From festering swamps
To beleaguered cities
And within the ruins
Unsung by tales
Heroes become champions
Rushing
To salvage one they lost
While the ashes of an old foe
Are gleefully dashed
By a greater monster

Tales of the Slumberlord Series Titles

Yahoo Image Search

First, the picture has nothing to do with this.  Last time I used, people seemed to think it was a character of the story.  I just toss this on when I have nothing else to use and the post deals with writing.

Now, I’m nearly done with the outlines for Tales of the Slumberlord, which will have 9 volumes.  Of course, each one will have it’s own title.  That’s going to make things pretty big, but I knew it was coming.  Anyway, let’s keep this short and to the point.  There aren’t any blurbs because I’m sleepy and don’t want to give more than the titles away.  You can figure a bunch out though.

  1. Darwin & the Fate Bracelet
  2. Darwin & the Halfling Hunt
  3. Darwin & the Avenging Elf
  4. Darwin & the Hellfire Elves (Rough using elves twice.  Other option was ‘Darwin & the Lost Demon’.)
  5. Darwin & the Beast Collector
  6. Darwin & the Joy Path
  7. Darwin & the Deadland Queen
  8. Darwin & the Nightmare Lord
  9. Darwin & the Slumber War

It’s hard to give an opinion without plot info, but I haven’t fine-tuned that part enough to give a proper blurb.  That 4th one may get changed a bit and I’m not entirely certain about the 7th.  With the latter, there are a bunch of characters involved and the titular Deadland Queen is simply one of the big ones.  I guess that one is the main connection to Darwin, which works out.  I’ll play around with it for a bit.
