Goal Post: Brain Meats Banged Up

I didn’t finish chapter 5 of Darwin and the Deadland Queen.  I came one section away from it after expecting to have more time.  The big end of summer Pokemon event wasn’t the big issue.  Plans of other people changed, which resulted in my plans getting changed.  So, the time I put aside for writing got halved on the weekend and erased during the week.  This is actually the first time this week that I’m on my laptop for something that isn’t work, custody, or parenting related.

With parenting, I probably said that I am now living with a high school senior.  That means college discussions and meetings.  It means trying to pry information out of a near adult who just wants to sit on his iPad drawing.  To be fair, he’s scrambling to put together an art portfolio for a college.  Sucks that he never had the chance to fit an art class into his previous school years, but he worked hard this summer to improve his skills.  Anyway, I had the last ‘Virtual Meet the Teacher’ night I will every have to attend.  I also had to go over a form for his senior trip and discuss other stuff with my ex-wife . . . This is effectively where my evenings went.

Custody . . . Things are in flux is the best I can say.  The changes aren’t sitting well with some people.  Others are still acting like themselves.  It’s reached a point where thinking about the situation is raising my blood pressure and making my stomach hurt.  This is on top of my allergies whooping my derriere.  At this rate, I expect to collapse tomorrow like I did two weeks ago when my son was with his mom.  My hope is to muster the strength to work on chapter 5 though.

Work was . . . Oh yeah!  I saw ‘Coyote vs Acme’ last Monday.  It was so much fun and even made me tear up a bit.  They had most of the Looney Tunes show up in some capacity.  I think Marvin, the gophers, and the sheepdog were the only ones I didn’t see.  Don’t know how they could have been put in there.  Wile E. Coyote as a central focus was great since he didn’t talk and had ‘limited signs’.  So, you got to see him randomly get into his usual genius mischief.  The human actors were so good that I always forgot that they had to be talking to nothing.  I would recommend this movie to anyone who grew up with the Looney Tunes.

As I was going to say, work was really busy since our program got a new student.  I can’t talk about him beyond he’s so sweet.  I think he’s a great addition to our group.  He learns things really fast as well.  Much of my week was helping with him, which has me thinking I should get a few specific certifications once the custody stuff settles.  I keep ending up in situations that I would like more training for. Looking them up and they’re going to take some time to complete, which I don’t have now.  One of them requires doing a lot of extra classes every 2 years, so I will have to wait until my son is done with the college prep and submissions.

This coming week is going to be another crazy one.  There’s a college planning meeting for my son, which will take one evening.  It ends with my son getting all of his wisdom teeth out, so I’ll be spending next weekend taking care of him.  I considered getting writing done, but I don’t know.  Depends on how he’s feeling.  Besides, I need to start sewing the pieces of my son’s Halloween costume together.  Bought enough to finish the jacket and then I can start hunting for what I need to make the gloves.  I need cosplay foam or clay along with thimbles to create simple claws.  Nothing I found in the stores would work for what we need.  My son is going to try to help with the non-sewing stuff, but it will depend on his recovery.

Let’s dive into the goals:

  1. Finish chapter 5 of Darwin & the Deadland Queen.  I mean it this time.
  2. Food shopping for my son’s healing period.
  3. Help him recover from surgery.
  4. Get body measurements for jacket pieces.
  5. Start sewing.
  6. Keep taking daily walks.
  7. Possibly start preparing November blog posts.  At least do the poems, Sunday posts, and teasers.  Not sure if continuing to repost old ones on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday is a good idea.  Does anyone care anymore?
  8. Lego time to relax.
  9. Sleep early.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.
