Jay Sherman (The Critic)
I’m pretty much out of teasers since I’m reusing old ones. So, I’m trying to figure out something I can do to keep Tuesday as a book promo day. Here are some ideas that I can do starting in December:
- Character interviews that can use Sundays to gather questions and then I’ll set up the post for the following Tuesday. Probably do all of the main heroes from the series. I’d do a poll, but I can’t find that option on WordPress anymore.
- Rotate through my books to do a simple ‘Buy it’ every week. Take a smaller teaser if possible.
- Repost the character origins posts from long ago.
- Keep doing teasers even though I’ve used all of them at least twice.
- Give up on promoting books.
- Something else that I haven’t thought of that people might want to see.

I hope you won’t have to resort to number 5. 😊 But I understand the frustration of marketing!

Feels like #5 is becoming more inevitable. Can’t get any traction.

Character interviews sounds like a good one. How about having a host character who runs a tonight show like interview with say two or three guests (your characters)

That sounds tough to pull off in my mind. I never know what to ask my own characters, which is why I prefer to have the audience do it.

Because people forget, and there are always new people, I don’t thinkrepeating posts is a problem. I’m going to repeat one pretty soon.

True, but I’ve done a lot of repeating this year. To the point where it’s been pointed out in comments. I don’t get any traction from the teasers either. That’s why I’m thinking of trying a new type of promo post, but I don’t know what could work. Realized I don’t have anything on December Tuesdays too, so it feels like I’m on a timer.

It’s a tough one, Charles. It’s coming up with novel ideas that haven’t been already done that’s the problem. Sorry I can’t be more help. I have the same problem!

I think the only tried and true way to promote is dumping thousands into promos. That way you make hundreds. Word of mouth doesn’t seem to be as strong as it used to be.

Number 5 is very tempting to me! I’ve given up pretty much unless I have a situation where I can market, not of my making!

That creates an issue of not having anything for Tuesday. I like having a daily posts to keep what little activity I have going.

Promos aren’t my strong suit.

I’d be okay with a featured book, if you can include a brief note about where it fits in the series, new things you created in writing it, or something like that.

I think I have older posts like that. Though I might be thinking about when I posted a teaser/promo of each book in order of release. Not sure I follow the ‘new things created’ thing. You mean characters, monsters, and locations? That’s a lot.
