(Written after an insanely noisy night. How anyone else in the house slept through that is beyond me.)
Singing bird outside my window.
Joined by honking horns.
Sirens blaring two streets down.
Setting off three barking dogs.
A pair of wildcats being to fighting.
Knocking garbage cans about.
Early workers starting engines.
Late night shifters slam car doors.
A pack of people shouting high.
Shattering bottles as they pass.
A car alarm overtakes them all.
The baby cries until all noises stop.
Five minutes pass to sleep again.
Then the damn alarm goes off.
Yikes! Very descriptive of a horrible night of noise. I can’t help being reminded of a winter morning when the people hired to plow the parking lot decided that 2–3 a.m. was just the right time to plow the parking lot. So we all heard the beeps and scrapes of the truck. I can only imagine how many complaints the rental office received about that.

I remember a few winters like that. Though, it were plows barreling down the street. They aren’t too loud, but they always seem to find enough bumps to jolt people away from time to time.

Memories of living in a city for me! Around here we had two years of construction, beginning with trucks at 5 AM, then hammering and nailing.

I’m glad the suburbs don’t do the construction like that. Though, we’ve got people working on their lawns at 6 am.

I feel you, hope you managed to get some proper sleep later.
As a personal story, was phone sleeping with my partner, and some two blokes from the apartment above his were having a deeply philosophical conversation very loudly through an otherwise silent night in both of our countries; he slept through all of it, 2 hours in I had grouchily advised them to please shut up or take it indoors. They heard me… My partner did not 😀

I’ve been okay for the most part. Current heatwave isn’t helping.
Interesting story. Never heard of phone sleeping. Do you just leave the phones on while you sleep?

We had the council send some sort of road cleaner at 6am the other morning. Grrrr. Why? No one around here was up, so they woke everyone. And many of us are retired people, so don’t get up early for work.

Why do people think most are awake at 6 am? Even those of us who work are trying to snag a few extra minutes of bedtime.
