It’s another Monday in October, so I’m going to present two more characters from War of Nytefall to answer questions in the comments. Hopefully, this gets a lot of responses and we have some fun. To check out the books in this series, here are the links:
Today, it’s Chastity Sullivan and Lost who get to join us. This mother and daughter team is always fun to work with. Lost has no filter and Chastity has no shame. The older . . . I mean, more mature Sullivan joined us last week, so check out her history by heading over to the post.
The biggest shock to the vampire world was when Clyde returned as a Dawn Fang and caused a fissure in the species. Seventeen years or so later, another surprise appeared in the form of Lost. This silver-haired, pajama-wearing, sock-fearing girl is the first vampire to be born through pregnancy. Her type are called womb-born and are born ‘dead’ until they are given some blood. Then, they come to life and only have the ability to mesmerize mortals for protection. Between the ages of ten and thirteen, they develop their three Dawn Fang powers. For Lost, this is heightened senses (which she can forget about), telekinesis (like her mother), and what she calls Mindjacking. This is because she originally only took over minds to control people, but it’s actually full-fledged telepathy that she is steadily mastering. Lost also has a decrepit bunny that flies around her and gets uses as a purse, weapon, friend, and spy. This animal was alive when she was little, but it bit her and she snapped its neck then used her telekinesis to keep it moving to act as her pets.
In the books, Lost has done a lot of things under the title of Princess General. She has referred to this a bit, but her quest to find her father has kind of ended that part of her life. Now, she is happy to be with her mother, who she had issues with for a little bit due to the abandonment. Chastity was the first Dawn Fang to become pregnant, so she had no idea what was going on. Only Luther Grathan knew her secret and then she gave birth to a ‘dead’ baby. Thinking it was a stillbirth, she broke down and buried the child, who got a drop of her blood as she was finishing her job. It was too late and Chastity left to mourn the loss of her child in secret. When her daughter reentered her life, she was both confused and happy. It has taken some time for them to act like a family because Lost decided to be rebellious since that’s what teenagers do. Now, they are living together at the Scrumptious Siren, but Lost goes every day to train with Gregorio Roman to get her powers under control.

Chastity and Lost, what’s your favorite thing to do together in order to bond as a family?

Chastity- We talk and work together. Since we have eternity, bonding can take its time. She’s also a teenager and has decided that she needs to rebel.
Lost- That’s how family works, right? Oh, I also hijack her body when she’s asleep to write me permission slips.
Chastity- Wait. Permission to do what? Not to mention, why?
Lost- Because asking nicely wouldn’t be an act of rebellion, mom. They give me permission for various things like eating, sleeping, not cleaning the dungeon floor, claiming one of the goblin bakers to do my bidding, and something called legal guardianship over you. Just like you’ve done with your special clients.
Chastity- I think we may have bonded too much.

Chastity and Lost, now that you are re-united do you think you might work together to find Lost’s father?

Chastity- No. I don’t think we’ll be doing that.
Lost- Mommy doesn’t know who it is.
Chastity- I know who he is. Best to leave mortals out of Dawn Fang business.
Lost- What was his name?
Chastity- Something Elvish and unmemorable.

Chastity, certain aspects of your business might be considered unsavory for a seventeen year old. Are you worried about that at all?

Lost- The pastries are very savory. Oh, I think he means the sex. I don’t really care about that. Don’t bother going into those areas.
Chastity- She’s telepathically eavesdropped too. Comes in handy with my information gathering. Still, I understand the concern, especially from a mortal perspective. To be honest, I considered the issue and she stayed with Gregorio for the first year of our reunion. I tried to keep her away from that side of my business for as long as I could, but she’s curious.
Lost- It’s also weird. I drink blood and get into fights. Bunny and I have taken lives and not returned them. Keeping me away from people having sex after I’ve done all that is rather silly.
Chastity- That’s still no reason to ignore the privacy of others, dear.

Lost- When she tries to be overbearing. It falls flat because she isn’t much better with her impulse control.
