In search of fame and fortune
They delve into the darkest holes
Magic torchlight licking skulls
Of those that failed to live
Dust and dirt stuck to the floor
Held fast by long-dried blood
Creatures scurry within the gloom
Harmless scavengers awaiting death
And fearsome beasts of hell
They rest and wait for greedy guests
Listening for the sounds of traps
Reset by the screams of death
All to find the ancient trove
Filled with coins and jewels
And magic tools long lost to man
These adventurers enter into darkness
To claim the blinding treasure

The imagery from this is way cool. Reminds me of Tolkien.

Thanks. Came from a lot of D&D games. 😀

Good one. There would not be enough money for me to go in there.

Same here. Unless I had a really good thief on the team.

Ha ha! The levels we love (or love to hate) in games! I had a Rune Factory flashback while reading that poem (and also D&D). 🙂

Dungeons really are a love/hate relationship with people. 😀

Well, they’re a great place to find treasure as you wrote above. But they can be sooo annoying with creatures that pop up. But the boss fights in dungeons are a good place to level up in some games.

Got thrown off by the boss fight thing because I was thinking D&D instead of video games. Not always a boss fight in there. Sometimes it’s just getting to the treasure and escaping. That’s if you’re the first one there. Always a chance the place was looted prior to your arrival.

‘Ere, you don’t happen to have a spare map handy do you Charles? I’ll split it with you.

I gave the map to the thief. He promised he’d keep it safe and share.

Well, I’m in my fifties and still role-playing with my friends, so actually the fond memories are not so distant. Don’t know if that will encourage you or not!

Cool. I had to stop because I couldn’t find any friends to play the games with. The last few I tried rapidly decayed into violent brawls, attempts to twist the rules, and a focus on potty humor.

Fantastic image, Charles, and may I say just a bit freaky?
