A Week of Wuh?

Every have one of those weeks where you’ve mentally blocked chunks of it from your memory?  I mean, I know I did stuff every day.  No clue as to what that is since I didn’t meet my writing goals.  The sad part is that on Wednesday, I pushed myself and did some fine-tuning to make up for lost time.  Then Thursday became a total loss and I was further behind than I was before.  My hope was to finish before my son has his Easter Break in a week and a half.  If I pull it off then it’ll be by the skin of my teeth, but it isn’t looking very good.

One thing I did accomplish was getting all the posts ready for April.  Threw in some poems and humorous stuff as well as opening hype for the next Windemere book.  I’m not sure if I’ll get the book out by May, but I’m hopeful.  Look, we all know how this game goes with me.  Something goes wrong and I’m left spewing excuses.  Hence the reason I never give exact release dates.  When things are ready, I’ll publish, promote, and hope for the best like I always do.  Seems to be a lot of that third option, which has me both on edge and depressed.  2016 really is emotionally kicking my ass and this book having dark events isn’t helping me.  Might have to do a week or two of ‘Bedlam’ prep to improve my mood.  I think I’ll do another one of those at some point even though the first isn’t selling.  It’s weird that people are enjoying it, but it rarely sells.  Maybe more needs to be out there to get attention.

The weather got weird, which is a topic that means I have nothing else to talk about.  I mean, we discuss weather when we simply want to avoid silence.  I could bring up the flowers that grew outside that my son has to check on before he goes to school.  Simple crocuses that always pop up.  Bought ‘The Peanuts Movie’ on DVD since my son loved it and we watched it as a family.  There was a book fair at his school, so he now has 7 new books.  Of course, he’s sticking to the old ones because that’s what kids do.  Either they ignore the new for the old or claim the box as the real toy.  Seems my week has been filled with tiny events and big distractions.  Seriously, I really can’t remember what went horribly wrong.

In blog news, I’m trying to figure out a way to make ‘Teaser Tuesday’ easier.  It’s hard to pick excerpts without spoilers or knowing which characters people will like.  Lloyd is always popular, but that would result in most of the book going online and then Amazon will get mad.  I have until April to figure something out since we have more of Kayla Matt’s art coming.  Maybe I’ll even use April and May to post the next adventure of Ichabod Brooks piece by piece.  Not sure what to do about pictures there since I only have the first cover and no sense in buying art for a ‘blog only’ thing.  Also an issue where Tribe of the Snow Tiger would need some excerpts and that could make a big break with Ichabod.  Can I ever do something smoothly?  Wondering how much I do to myself.

So, what’s the plan for the week?

  1. Write 5 more chapters of Ritual of the Lost Lamb.
  2. Think of meals for when I’m in charge of cooking in a week.
  3. Do a little prep work for another Bedlam book.
  4. Study pizza dough recipe for first attempt.
  5. Biking and sweating.
  6. Wake up around 2 or 3 AM next Saturday.  Complain about it.
  7. Heavy lifting
  8. Heavy breathing

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. I’m there with you. A house full of company is a distraction. I never miss a post on Saturday, but that’s what happened. I’ll probably write about it after they head out.

I’m convinced you have eight hands and two heads. This picture we see in your gravatar is a hoax.

  3. You’re only human, Charles (apparently). You are too hard on yourself. I know, I’m a hypocrite, but remember, pal; it is okay to slow down once in a while. Keep pushing and you may push too far, a star that burns bright doesn’t burn for long. I believe in you.

    • It isn’t the slowing down thing. I mean, I took 2 months off from big projects at the end of last year. The problem is that I’m pushing against things that refuse to get out of my way. That makes the situation a lot more exhausting, especially since many of these issues won’t go away if I focus on them. They’ll just consume all my time and throw me so far off the schedule I made for this year that I might as well give up. Seriously, this is not a good year for me.

At least you have goals that you can then have life get in the way of. My week looks like this:

    1. Ceiling fan
    2. ZZZZZZZZZ

I can relate to what you’re saying. The past two weeks have been a blur to me. My sister had her baby so that’s been the focus of everyone’s attention. My sister and brother-in-law even stayed over this past weekend. That included with work and babysitting, I haven’t gotten much of anything done. I’ve been trying to play catch up.

  8. I love how you weave all the foibles of life into a few goals. i.e. Wake up at 2:00 or 3:00 and complain about it. Ha ha ha
