Swallowed by Gaia

(Before the poem, this was one of my favorite games as a teen and I typed in ‘Earthen Womb’ for a picture. Found it funny that this piece of my past turned up when I was in the mood for this poem.Β  All instrumental if you want to give it a listen.)

Ground opening beneath my feet
Fear clinging to my throat
Though I may still be asleep
A dream that starts with anarchy
And ends with an envelope of warmth

Curled within a tomb of soil
Using lungs that still find air
My eyes see nothing beyond night
Yet they still sense life
That ebbs and flows through the dirt

Is this a moment of healing?
A chance to rest and regain strength
Or is this the end?
No more road for me to travel
Only a well-earned sleep
Nestling in the belly of Gaia

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

I agree with Jan Hawke. i listened to the music as I read the poem. It has that “ebb and flow” feeling. πŸ™‚

  3. I was half-convinced this was going to turn into a zombie-uprising story, lol. I like how it turned out, though. Very serene.
