Shattered Goals and . . . What’s That Other Thing?

No writing.  Outings with kid all week.  Hot and busy.  No outlining.  Last weekend in August and a few days until school starts again.  Then Labor Day.  Then Rosh Hashana.  Then Yom Kippur.  No full weeks of school for a while.  No book debut yet.  No news.  No sanity.  No audience?  So tired.

Goals . . .

  1. See movie today.
  2. Have lunch today.
  3. Do laundry today.
  4. Possibly start writing ‘Crossing Bedlam’ today.
  5. Return to fatherhood.
  6. Prepare for school.  Includes making grilled cheeses, pizzas, and/or Mac & Cheese for lunches.
  7. Pray for book debut.
  8. Release special project on Labor Day weekend anyway.
  9. Write more of ‘Crossing Bedlam’.  Hope to finish by end of September.
  10. Release Merchant of Nevra Coil if everything works out.
  11. Start biking again.
  12. Spend first day of school doing notebook work and toying with another idea that might be posted about instead of a Tuesday Teaser.
  13. Post Mark Hamil doing the Joker eulogy below:

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. Know how you feel (sort of). I’m having trouble getting everything to fall into place these days. Hope things get better. (for me as well)

    • Just feels like I’m not even getting any opening to relax unless I’m already at the exhaustion phase. The body can’t keep doing that before it needs a while to recover, which won’t happen. Might as well use my spurts of energy to be productive.

  2. Part of my plan falls into place, part of it doesn’t. Regroup, make a new plan based upon what I have accomplished, move forward. I have a lot to do when vacation ends.

I’m reading, so I guess I’m part of your audience 🙂 Seriously, though. You’re a great example of tenacious writing. Keep it up. You’re doing great, and you’re getting things done. Good job so far!

    • Thanks. Though today ended up being a bust. Now that I have the time to write, I’m too exhausted to even try. Not a good mentality to start a new project on.

True, but it might be a good time to grab a slice and sit down with a favorite program on TV. That’s what I have planned tonight!

      • Too late for a slice though. Might just curl up and zone out on random stuff. The annoying part is that I was running the opening scene in my head all morning and was ready to go. Then things went wrong.

Gotcha, time was not your friend today. Been there last week and didn’t like it. Wish I could’ve told everyone wanting me that I’ve checked into an asylum so that no one could’ve bothered me. Somehow, I don’t that that’s work with you either–that’s to say, you telling people to leave you alone! 🙂

      • Time hasn’t been my friend for a while. Summer seems to be either slow or fast with nothing in the middle. Requesting time to myself doesn’t usually work. It’s amazing how hard it is for people to entertain a 6-year-old or avoid talking to a guy writing on a laptop.

  4. I feel for you, Charles. As you can see, you are not alone. We are all chasing our tails and finding ourselves encumbered with ‘real’ life. Responsibilities are tough to contend with when we need to write (and nobody but another writer will fully appreciate the frustration, like only addicts understand addicts; but then – writing is an addiction I suppose). Stick to your list, but remove the word ‘possibly’ from number four. I believe in you, best wishes from baldy

    • Thanks but ‘possibly’ has to stay. With the kid still on summer break, a new heat wave, and it being a weekend, I didn’t have much luck. If I can maintain enough energy then I’ll get a little in tonight, but I’m doubting it. These days are too exhausting and I’m already starting like a zombie.

I remember being so blown away many years ago when I learned that Mark Hamill was the voice of Joker. He’s absolutely brilliant as the Joker (and Sinestro in the Lego Justice League movie).
I felt sad when I read the first two words of your post. But I can understand. Will you take your son to see Shaun the Sheep?

    • He was also Hobgoblin in the Spider-Man series, which is where I first found out he did voice acting. I won’t be taking the kid to the movies though. He talks too much and it’s easier to do it at home until he learns more self-control.
