I actually finished Charms of the Feykin a.k.a. Book 11 this morning before racing around to finish errands. Supposed to get a storm tonight, so need to finish computer stuff and then the night is outlining or something. The last one was about 10 minutes long, but I know the one time I don’t act like I’ll be forced off the Internet will be when I have to row myself out of the house. Plus side of this victory, is that it’s just in time for my son to start his half days and getting next week off. Probably be a father/son zoo trip in our future. Depends on the heat.
This first draft completion comes with extra weirdness. Not that I’m still not 100% certain about the release of The Merchant of Nevra Coil since I’m never sure of what’s going on with that. There is a sense of wandering since this is the start of my summer editing extravaganza that will cover Books 9-11. It’s that I only have 4 books left of Legends of Windemere. Book 12 is the final temple and then everything heads for the grand finale. Still uncertain about a few titles:
12- The Spirit Well
13- Ritual of the Lost Lamb (not very intimidating)
14- Path of the Traitors
15- Return of the Blood-Soaked Baron (No idea if this is right. Had a great one and lost the file during that computer crash)
I’m really heading toward the end here, which is both exciting and scary. Can I really leave these characters behind and move on to another series? Will people want to move on after the ending? Will I be pigeon-holed into this one series? How long do I wait until I tackle the next one? Should I drop to 2 books and a few smaller works every year? Where do I really want to go with this? Can I stop typing questions in this post? Have I lost everyone yet? Who will be the one to try and answer all of these? Why is Batman and Peter Parker never in the same place at the same time?
Well, I’m off to do something. I have Book 12 outline to glance over while Book 11 is fresh in my mind. Then I have the project that gets a post on Thursday to fiddle with. Fun, fun, fun.

I don’t know… who’s on first? LOL! Storming here right now. Have a safe night.

Give me a month. 😛 Seriously though, I need to do editing to fix up continuity since 9-11 have closer subplot connections. Probably be doing 8 throughout the month too. Really hoping that’s ready by August 1st.

Good stuff, Charles. Keep moving forward and don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise. Great seeing your progress blossoming. Great job!

I took a long week off without writing a word other than my three blog posts. Other than that it was one big party here at Casa Flacco. I’d recommend it to decompress, especially to regain momentum with the writing and with the creative flow. Two cents!

I actually decompress by doing outlines and smaller projects. I’ve realized that doing nothing is a signal to the other people around here that I could use some chores and errands. Can’t let my guard down here.

You stop at 12 if you’re superstitious. 🙂

Thankfully, 13 is a lucky family number. I never got the elevator thing with Floor 13. Just because you don’t put the number there, doesn’t mean the 13th floor magically disappears or changes to the 14th. Weird.

You can run from 13, but can’t hide from it.. Yeah, I guess floor 14 should be unlucky if 13 is skipped.

Unless bad luck is too stupid to realize that. Maybe it just splits between floors 1 and 3.

I think bad luck is clever. Hard to outsmart it, it seems. 🙂

Woo hoo – congrats on finishing #11! How exciting! 😀
Path of the Traitors is a great title. It really stands out.

Thanks. That and ‘The Spirit Well’ are the only two that I’m comfortable with. Not sure what to do about 13 and 15 and time is running out there. Might just need a meatier ritual name for 13.

Time for another competition 😉

Think I’ll have to skip that one. Too many spoilers would have to be revealed for those two stories. Especially 13, which is all about an unexpected derailment at the finish line.

When you are done with the “Legends” series maybe you should try your hand at writing a book of questions…just kidding 🙂 Sounds like an exciting and nervous time for you my friend. 🙂

It is. Though I’ve had my hands full with the little one and that will probably be happening until after July 4th. 🙂

There has to be one! Today I’m going to be it and answer your challenge (even though you were joking) and answer each of your questions…
Can I really leave these characters behind and move on to another series?
Of course you can. You could always start a spin off series and then it’s the best of both worlds!
Will people want to move on after the ending?
I can’t answer that until I’ve read said ending! I’m sure you’ll satisfy us – give us a sense of closure 🙂
Will I be pigeon-holed into this one series?
I doubt it. You have loyal readers and fans who enjoyed your dalliance into a different genre. If you can build the world, your readers will come!
How long do I wait until I tackle the next one?
Give yourself a small break, but not to long that you lose your momentum. How long…hmm…how long is a piece of string?
Should I drop to 2 books and a few smaller works every year?
Go with your gut. If you can manage the schedule – why change?
Where do I really want to go with this?
Where do you really want to go with this?
Can I stop typing questions in this post?
Can I stop answering questions in this post?
Have I lost everyone yet?/Who will be the one to try and answer all of these?
The above should answer both those questions!
Why is Batman and Peter Parker never in the same place at the same time?
I don’t know, but I still think Spidey would win in a fight 😉
Congratulations on finishing the book by the way 😀

I shall reply:
1) I might have a one-shot finale for a side character, but the survivors will have to be designated to cameos in future series.
2) Going to be hard to tell because some character get ‘bad’ endings. Having an ensemble cast means I can vary their fates.
3) I think seeing other big name authors returning to their hallmark series has me worried. Maybe that’s only a threat of being that high.
4) I’ll have the series fully written about a year before the last 3 books are released, so I might start in on the next series after a month or two. At least with outlines.
5) I can manage it, but I think I’ve driven my editor and cover artist nuts.
Spidey would win in reality, but Batman seems to always win in the comics. Spider sense vs ‘Batman sense’? I’ll go with the one that isn’t simply the writer’s playing favorites.
