First order of business: Did you know some bloggers will copy/paste a post, give you credit, and pingback to the original? Happened recently and I must say that I was confused. Didn’t know the person and was shocked to find that my entire post was sitting there. Not sure if I should be angry or if I’m still wowed by the ridiculousness of the entire thing.
Anyway, I’ll be away from the Internet today as long as the weather holds. I’m supposed to help a friend with a baseball thing again. Nothing complicated like last time, but we’ll see what happens. I’m not allowed to use the scoreboard equipment, so I have to pay attention and tell people when a score is made. At least it’s only a short game and then I get to sit down to watch a minor league game . . . or sleep. Not sure which one will happen or be the safest bet. Never safe to fall asleep around friends.
In COMPASS KEY news, I’m still hoping to get the cover art by the end of the weekend. As of waking up today, I’m still waiting. It needs a little clean up and then the title/author name, but I’m really hoping to send out the Cover Reveal email this week. At this point, I’ll be happy if even a fraction of volunteers still help out. I gathered people too long ago and then delays happened, which might have damaged Hype Week. It’s hard to tell because people don’t really talk to me any more. Decipher that for what you will . . . guess that makes sense. SO I REALLY HOPE TO RELEASE THE BOOK THIS COMING FRIDAY!
For anyone who missed an earlier post, my wife starts a big job in a few weeks. This means she’ll be out the door before the toddler wakes and back home later than she is now. So I’ll be limited for a while or until he goes back to school in September. I’m still going to be the one getting up to make his breakfast, lunch, get him dressed, and get him on the bus. Plus side is that I have a ton of editing to do on other books and that might take a few months. No major rush on the writing since I have Books 1-8 finished and I’m only releasing up to 6 this year. Gives me plenty of time to go over things. I have 2 weeks before my wife starts her job, so that means I can get Book 6 out of the way and that’s the more important one at this juncture.
Now for the goals:
- Get used to do my daily tweets the night before.
- Start editing Book 6 of Legends of Windemere: Curse of the Dark Wind.
- RELEASE THE COMPASS KEY.
- Finish the final pieces of Hype Week once I get the cover art.
- Spend all of Friday doing the marketing emails and prep for the new book.
- See Guardians of the Galaxy next weekend.
- Outline something of I’m feeling restless. Have two ideas to choose from right now.
- Admit that I have no stable goals because I don’t know if this will be a Hype Week or a ‘Sorry For the Delay’ week.

I saw the post and thanked them for the pingback. I was confused as well. Looked good though.

I wasn’t sure what to do there. On one hand, I felt like it was taken without permission. On the other hand, I was given credit. Think the reblogging chaos from before has me on edge.

Understood.

Is it another WP blog? I could maybe understand if it were a different blogging platform and the person couldn’t just reblog. I haven’t seen the post so I really shouldn’t judge but I will 😉 Since I think most readers don’t read closely, there’s a fair chance that readers will think the post was written by the blogger and not by you. I’ve had that happen with reblogs which I find really confusing. Another thing is comments. By copying/pasting the entire post, that blogger will get all the comments for that post because most readers are not going to click through to an original post to leave a comment. That is one reason why I turn off comments in reblogs (when I remember). I got tired of people leaving comments on my reblogs (unless I invited them to) when the point of the reblog was to drive readers to a post I thought was interesting.
Here’s hoping you can kick off Hype Week. I’ll be looking forward to your email 🙂

It was a WordPress blog with a pingback. I did see my name at the top and the post link at the bottom. I am wondering if this is what people do to avoid the ‘reblog delete’. Many people don’t bother with reblogs because they’ve been done so much. By doing this, you give credit to the source and you increase the chance of it being seen. My only issue is that I wasn’t asked because that would have been nice. (I did still accept the pingback though.)
I hope Hype Week starts too. I’ll be out of the house and away from the Internet for most of the day, which means I won’t know if the cover art came in until tonight. Jason is really busy and working hard, so all I can do is keep my fingers crossed. I’ll be keeping my blog quiet for most of tomorrow in preparation for Hype Week starting. If I don’t get anything until night then I throw up an old poem to keep my ‘never missed a day’ thing going.

you’re incident with the copy and paste thing has happened to me in the past with my old blog… it’s part of why I don’t like the blogging platform, too many unscrupulous people… and legal recourse is long and taxing and often just not worth it… it’s why I’ve started looking for other ways to gain exposure…

Yeah. I don’t think there’s much of a legal recourse in most blogging things. Once you put it out there, it’s hard to argue about what some people do to it.

You could always make a second call for helpers with the cover reveal, see if any new people sign up to help. Can’t see any harm in doing so anyway. 🙂

Depends on how long I have before the date. If I get the cover art tomorrow or Tuesday then it’s cutting it far too close. At least with everything else I’m doing.

I hope the week goes well for you, Charles. I must have missed the post about your wife’s new job. I’ll try to find it!

Me too. Though my blog is going to be ‘paused’ for a while. Expect filler until I get the cover art.
