Been a long time, but here’s a game from the Ionia Martin/Charles Yallowitz team. Maybe this is the start of us returning to a few comical sketches or interviews. Seems ‘Life’ got in the way. Seriously, we were playing the board game called ‘Life’ and it got totally out of hand. We’ve called off the ninja squirrels and capybara cavalry, but peace talks are still ongoing. Having trouble with the Cupcake Clause. Anyway, on to the real fun.
Many authors use pen names for various reasons. Some dislike their birth name or feel it’s too complicated to put on a book cover. Others wish to hide their true identity because of any number of reasons. For example, a writer of erotica might want to keep their writing career hidden from family or a full-time employer. Either way, there’s a big tradition in pen names, so Ionia and I came up with a game.

Fun! I actually got into an argument with another blogger the other day. He was adamant that pen names were stupid, and authors who used them were stupid. I explained the reasons why authors use pen names. He said that my reasons were stupid. So I unfollowed his blog, lol. I’m really bad at coming up with pen names, so sadly I won’t be able to participate. For the cookbook, though, I’m thinking “Margarita” something.

I couldn’t come up with pen names either and I think my real name stands out enough to help. It’s interesting how passionate people are about pen names. What reasons did you give?

The two I went with were 1) the author’s worried that their name is too hard to spell / difficult to remember, and 2) wanting to keep their real identity anonymous (e.g., erotica writers).

Ha! I’m laughing at some of the suggestions. I have enough problems trying to remember my own name…much less come up with someone elses! lol I think Pen Names are an author’s perogative (why is it saying that’s spelled wrong…hmm!).
