Quest of the Broken-Hearted Part 2

First, I’m not going to do any real spoilers here.  I’m also going to remind people that this is a possibility and it’s turning out to be the one that needs some prep work if I’m going to use it.  Still not even hinting of how the whole thing comes about.

So, I’ve been working on the outline for Book 8, which has been a little rough because the team gets split up.  I’m being careful with placement to make sure characters aren’t left alone for too long.  Not easy and making it that a few chapters will turn out like short stories.  My brain has needed a rest from the chaos and it’s seemed to latch onto the idea of a Kira Grasdon solo story.  Again, this is if she survives all of her trials and doesn’t get the happy ending.

Anyway, the original plan has kind of changed, which shows how fluid ideas are until you get them on paper.  Various details of the opening life and the ending have changed as I analyze the Kira that exists at the end of Book 7.  That sounds rather ominous.  The challenge I’m finding is to give her a sense of ‘broken’ while keeping her compassionate.  It shouldn’t be too hard, but I’m placing her in a dark place where she’s either going to rise above it or revel in it.  This is really about rising from the ashes.

Again, that’s if she makes it out of the current series and has a reason to go.  I spent part of yesterday making a backup character in case Kira gets the good ending because it wouldn’t be right to take that away from her.  The backup character I might slip into a later book of Legends of Windemere as a teaser or maybe he/she is already around.  Lacarsis tends to attract the foolhardy adventurer and those who want to go out with a bang.  It’s a city of monsters that nobody gets out of alive.  It’s already been mentioned in Beginning of a Hero, but people don’t talk about it much.  Ignore it, stay away from it, and maybe it will leave you alone.  Did I mention the city moves around?  This is going to be a fun place to explore when I’m done with it even if it’s with the new character.

Anyway, this is a big addition to the project list and one that I can probably finish in a day or two once Book 8 is outlined.  Next week will be the other projects.  Also, I’ll be doing the Blog Tour Thanks posts later in the day.  This way I make sure people see it and it isn’t lost in the email or reader shuffle.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. I love how the mind of a writer thinks. Or allows the story to carry them. Or looks at all kinds of possibilities. As a reader, I’m amazed at the mind of a creative person. Good luck.

    • Thanks. We’ll see what I have for a story when the outline is done. I found my old notes and there was a point I had Kira trying to carry on Luke’s ‘work’ by becoming a vigilante in Gaia. I made her a fantasy version of Batman. Weird how these ideas change and it’s not even a confirmed story.
