Goodbye, Futurama

Cast of Futurama

Tonight we say good-bye
To a charming cast of characters
And one smelly lobster
Resurrected after death
Only to be killed again
Yet Family Guy lives on?
So I’ll sit back at ten
With a beer and popcorn
Fighting memories of Fry’s dog
Because I don’t want to carry tissues
Waiting for the final joke
Though I’m sure there will be tears
From a show that made me laugh and cry
My parting line
Will be to those that ended the fun
Bite my shiny metal ass, losers!

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

always liked Futurama and it will end up getting resurrected again…Family Guy which you have mentioned is in it’s 3rd incarnation… or it could be Futurama is going to go the movie route…they have the fanbase to support more movies… how many movies are there already… You’ll be seeing more of Fry… and Lela with the one eye and once more you will be serenaded with a bit of class when Bender says one more time “you can bite my shiny metal ass…”

    • There were four movies before they got put back on TV. Don’t forget Zoidberg. I do hope it all comes back at some point. I’m unsure because it’s definitely more of a thinking and wit comedy at times. Is Family Guy really on its 3rd incarnation? I remember it got cancelled and came back once, but I didn’t know about another time.

ahhh whoop whoop whoop…can’t forget Zoidberg or Hermes neither, or the professor, and mary-anne …oops wrong series… up here in Canada Family guy had an 8 episode run and then was cancelled picked up again as filler the following season and couple of more then they got cancelled again… they’re back for the third time although I am upset the broke the movie up into two episodes and cut out almost all the good stuff from the movie… thinking about the movie thing I think Futurama may have been more profitable from that stand point as the commercial revenue as a series was lacking by comparison to the Simpsons and Family Guy…

      • The funny thing about Futurama is that it’s a high standard of continuity. A friend of mine went to an anime festival and sat in on a panel about how to keep a story going through a series. They spent half the time talking about how Futurama put things into earlier episodes that would appear later. For example, Nibbler being briefly seen in the first episode. The movies are an interesting set because each one was made to be put into 4 episodes if they hit TV. Technically, they all combine to make a full 16 episode season.

I hear they’re actually making a true ending to it though. So, we’ll see what happens.

for continuity Babylon 5 … a little off topic but it was written and pitched as a five year run…probably should have been canceled after the first but it wasn’t… in the end I was glad it wasn’t because the next four were great and in the fifth season things were peppered with first season references… the Babylon 5 movies existed outside the five year script…not as good…and a few gaffs made…

      • Never saw it, but I’ve heard things. It does bring up an interesting question. Is it easier to maintain continuity in a cartoon or a live-action series? I know so many cartoons that break their own rules or have no cohesion. For example, Bart and Lisa Simpson haven’t aged. Live-action seems to have a requirement for true continuity because of things like aging, actors leaving, and other issues.

My husband watches futurama or Family Guy when I am on the computer in the evenings. There is still hope for the reruns thru netflix with no commercials…his preferred method.

Oh my. Guess all things pass. Perhaps the collective energies will be put into creating something new that will be as good. Once never knows, sometimes one has to move on…wonder what Conen Doyle could have done if he’d really went on from the famous Mr. Holmes.
