Woman of Windemere: Nyx Poems

I Am Nyx

I am magic
Born to cast and fight
It is my destiny
To face the darkness
A warrior of the gods
Should I know anything else?

Fire in my hands
Before I could take step
Taking to spells
Like they were made for me
Reveling in duels
Am I only a weapon?

Raised to be a lady
A role that did not take
Bar brawls at night
An adopted rebel
With terrifying power
Am I even a woman?

Nightmare of Her Youth

Her earliest memory
Is of a mother’s warmth
Fringed by flame
That consumes the town
Licking at their feet
While demons hunt about
Devouring her people

Thrown into the hands
Of a man in red
His glowing staff aloft
She remembers
A mother’s sacrifice
Consumed by fire
To tear demons asunder

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. Charles, she seems like such a complex and conflicted character! Lovely poems, too.
