I changed my book to 2.99 last night and it has been there all day. Now, look at my page:
http://www.amazon.com/Beginning-Hero-Legends-Windemere-ebook/dp/B00BL9GBU2
See something strange there? Amazon put into some kind of sale group, so my 2.99 book is BACK to .99 cents. What the hell? I can’t even figure out why this happened and it really makes last night’s fussing over pricing a waste of my time. I could have been reading or outlining or anything!
Seriously . . . WTF!?!?

That’s just a kick in the crotch.
Seriously.
*Shakes head at Amazon.*

I sent them a message asking what in the world happened. Add to the insult, I dropped over a 1,000 rankings since this happened.

It’s coming up as $3.08 for me when I click the link, odd.

Is that UK or American version of Amazon?

American I’d imagine, clicking it from your link above. 🙂

Saying .99 cents when I check. I’ve got 2.03 on the UK version.

Most strange, they must be having some technical difficulties so!

I don’t know. It’s rather weird for a technical difficulty. The actual price is on the page with a line through it, which means somebody manually put me on a 90% discount.

Weird… I am not sure how that stuff works. Sorry that it happened. (Comes up as 99 cents on sale for me too).

I’m wondering if they’re doing a sale on KDP Select titles and I never noticed because I was already at the lowest price. I just don’t know of any other KDP Select titles to check. Unless my sales hit so low that they discounted me to ‘help’ and didn’t realize I had just changed the price.
This is really just frustrating.

Do you have it available on any other site? Amazon will match other retailer’s prices.

I’m KDP Select. I took it down from all other sites. Unless there’s another one floating out there, but then I would have gotten an angry e-mail about being in breach of contract.

I see Digital List Price at 2.99, Kindle price of .99

Kindle is supposed to be the Digital List. Basically, the List Price is 2.99 and they discounted it to .99 cents. At least that’s what looks like happened. Can you buy it for 2.99?

I also see $0.99. When I was talking to iUniverse about my bizarre ebook pricing, they told me that Amazon doesn’t actually have to price their books at what you tell them — they have the right to raise the price a couple of dollars if they feel the need, and then of course, as you’ve discovered, they can lower it as part of a sale. I wouldn’t freak out about it if I were you — the sale will probably end in a few days. And if not, you can always call up Amazon and be like “Dewd, wtf? I r totes puttin ma book at 2.99 yo”.

I sent them a message asking about it. I asked if I was put into a sale that somebody forgot to tell me about it. After all, it hasn’t even been 24 hours with my book at 2.99. If they say yes then I might just point out that giving the author a warning will avoid aging them horribly.

Something similar happened to me when the paperback for “Baron of Blood” was finally listed. It is set for $8.99 and they immediately put it on sale for $8.49. O.o One would think that they would notify us authors before they make such changes? At any rate, I know Amazon is prone to doing random promotions / sales, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it! Your price should be fixed soon enough.

My paperback has a dollar off thing too. I think that’s from the price-matching and they react to Createspace’s price. Even though they’re connected, they aren’t the same company.
From what I was told in an email, they thought they found my book somewhere else for .99 cents. So, they price-matched and then realized that it was something else. It will take a few days to fix according to them.

$.99 for me too. But I also have the option of borrowing it from the Kindle Borrowing Library which I shan’t do because you are my friend! lol That is just plain frustrating. You will have to tell us what they say when they respond.

Looks like I’m having an impromptu sale to celebrate the 2.99 price change. Nothing says ‘new price’ like selling the book for the original price.

Sitting here shaking my head. What’s a guy to do! Have you heard back from them?

Yeah. Made a short post, but the gist is that their program found my book ‘for sale’ at a cheaper price, so it brought me down to match it. Nobody knows where it found the other price and it will take a few business days to fix. So, I have a Memorial Day sale whether I like it or not.

It’s tough because she’s big in the first book, but I’m not sure I can post parts of that one due to the KDP Select. We’ll see.

Oh well – maybe you could put out some bunting and make a real celebration of it! Good luck.

Thanks. It should be fixed in a couple of days. Amazon apparently made an oops and price-matched me with something that is now gone.

I didn’t know they did that… Another lesson for us both.

Yup. I understand the practice, but they should probably try to fine tune the system if this happens a lot.

Probably won’t be fixed until next week due to the holiday. Guess I’m running a sale. 😀

Oh! I didn’t know…
I’m lucky if I can remember which day of the week it is. (Thursday, right?)
Well, I hope you and the family get to have a nice, relaxing holiday. But knowing you, you’ll be hard at work on your manuscript. 😉

I might out running around, which means I won’t be on-line for Monday. It depends on the weather and if we can think of a place to bring the toddler. I’ve heard mention of the zoo for the first time, but a holiday might make it too crowded.

Stay away from the zoo! There will probably be lots of screaming kids and unhappy parents, teachers, and grandparents. My family went to the zoo around the end of May a few years back…long story short: we’ll wait until June next time.
But whatever you do, I hope everyone has fun! 🙂
