I’m still working on the first chapter section of book 5, but have to take a break to cook an early, reheatable dinner. It’s chicken parm if anyone is wondering. The truth is that I really don’t want to do this for one big reason:
The Lich is actually coming out amazingly badass and cool in this scene.
I can’t go into the details because of spoilers, but Trinity has basically told the Lich that he has to run away and abandoned the Caster Swamp. I thought he’d be mocking, angry, or his usual pathetic self. Instead, I get this defiant, eloquent, ‘Come and get me!’ villain who has no intention of running away. In fact, he’s hellbent on taking his enemy down with him even if he’s killed. I mean, he just declared that he’s the king of the Caster Swamp and nothing can drive him from his home.
This is going to make a few of the Lich’s other scenes very different than they were originally intended. He’s not going quietly into that dark night and I’ve got a feeling he’s going to try to drag everyone into it with him. Where in the world was this villain in the previous books? Did he need the current atmosphere and impending doom to get his act together?

It’s exciting when your characters come alive and take a path you never expected 🙂

That it is, but I typically don’t get it from a villain. The heroes and supporting cast drive me nuts. The villains tend to behave.

My villians never behave for me! But they usually turn into good guys for me.
That is cool! Maybe I’ll start to like the Lich…in a ‘Wow, he’s amazingly scary’ kind of way. 🙂

Maybe. I doubt he’ll be going good guy unless his allies really make him mad. Then he’ll simply be trying to take out both sides.

LOL! That could work!

Though, I think this newer villain is going to make the Lich look like a puppy. He’s disturbing and sick even to me.

The Lich or the new villain? And which book does he debut in?

The new villain, who sort of debuts in the 4th book. He doesn’t show his true colors until the 5th.

I love when a character “expands” like this! It’s going to be exciting to write. 🙂
