Quest for New Business Cards

So, I’m handing out most of my remaining business cards, so my wife can start in on making new ones.  The old ones were nice, but there was some information that had to be replaced.  The new ones won’t be as fancy unless my wife can figure out a masterful way to make them.

Does anybody know a good program for designing business cards?  What about a place to get public domain graphics to use on them?  We’re trying to work cheap aka free with the card stock and ink we have in the house.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. I used Vistaprint for mine. Though I ordered from the company, I believe you can use what you design with them for no charge on your own printer if you prefer. I’d check them out and see.

I can’t help you with your question but I did have an idea about your bookmarks that I wanted to share with you before I forget again. How about sticking them in the same genre as your novel at the public library?

  3. Have you checked MOO? I think they offer a free first set deal like Vistaprint, but I could be wrong. FedEx actually makes some pretty swanky business cards, too, but I’m not sure if they offer any free deals. As far as designing your own, if you use Linux, Gimp is a pretty easy to use program for designing things.

I use Gimp to design (it’s like a free photoshop), and if I am unsure about the size I format them with a template in Microsoft Publisher. If you ever need help let me know! Good luck.

  5. Any basic program should work. Word even has a business card template. Publisher is a little easier. I’m guessing you don’t have any of the professional graphics programs like inDesign and it is pretty costly so I wouldn’t invest in it for business cards.

    • My wife is going to try using Inkscape, which she used for the business cards. If that doesn’t work, she’s going to try using Gimp. If that fails, she’s going to curse at the computer and use Word. I stay out of her way when she does these things.

A bunch of great information. I don’t need cards yet, but everyone’s comments give me some great sites to research.
