Just a disclaimer that I’m throwing in: The author lost his job the day he put this up for publishing. They events aren’t connected beyond involving the same man, but if you wish to buy the short story for .99 cents, it would help him out until he finds a new job. If not then there is the free code and please leave a review when you are done, which will cheer him up. Either one works for him.
Due to it’s length, I can’t go into much detail about it. This short story does involve a sensitive topic, which is gun control. Just reading it, I’m sure it will anger some people. Even I was a little annoyed at the way both of the characters spoke. It does get a little confusing when the speaker isn’t pointed out. I get that one character is the staunch, protective Conservative and the other is the bleeding heart Liberal. To be honest, the Liberal came out very much like a caricature until the twist ending, which did ease the growing feeling of irritation. Before that ending, the story does feel like nothing more than an argument between the two extremes of the gun control debate.
This book does show that the author, RB Davis, has a lot of creativity and talent for stirring emotions. At 4-pages and free (or .99 cents) it doesn’t hurt to give it a try and toss him a review to help him any of his longer works.

a review of my work – puts me in an almost good mood (having to go shovel walks will prevent me from making the final step to the happy place)

Thanks. It’s really hard to review a short story. I don’t know how people do it.

It is a challenge. What I hate is when they want me to review flash fiction!

Flash fiction? Never heard the term. Is that like a one-page thing?

Like less than a hundred words sometimes –awful how do you find anything meaningful to say in a review?

Yikes. Maybe talking about the grammar and spelling? That’s not even a short story. How do you get a plot or character development out of that?

Exactly. Here’s my review: it was short

Imagine how many things I could review if they were only a hundred words each lol

Charles, if you ever feel like reviewing another 2,000 word short story, let me know.
I’d love it if you reviewed one of mine.

Sure. I should probably have some time next week before I leave for a convention next Friday. Is it a published story and you want me to post a review on my site or just something you want me to email you a private opinion about?

That would depend on how much you like it. If it sucks, I’ll send you a time machine to erase it from your timeline, but if it’s good, any kind of review would be greatly appreciated, even a 1-line quote will do.
Like you, I’ve also been on the lookout for other self-published writers to review. But since time is short for me, I can’t commit to reviewing novels so short stories will have to do.
If you know of any self-published writers who have had short stories published or who are currently writing one, please let me know.
I’d love to read it. 🙂

I don’t have much time for novels either. I’ve been trying to sneak some in over time, which is a list I’m trying to cut down over the next two weeks.
‘When I Became an Author’ (Briana Vedsted) has a few short stories that I’ve read. Western genre. You can ask her if she’s willing to swap stories/reviews.
