Disposable Peon

A job well done

Until the very end

Toiling and sweating

Bleeding for the task

All to pay a bill

And eat another day

Survival is the aspiration

Old dreams are crushed

Fine powder drowned in tears

Sacrifice for the sinister cent

Taking abuse

Holding on to hope

That the job will remain

Until it is no more

Torn away on a blackened day

Feeble reasons given

As all your work

All your struggle

Is tossed into the trash

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  2. This happens far too often to so many of us. It really is sad to have to live this way. Excellent poem. 🙂
