Questions 3: Delivering Hope

Everyone has their own opinion on this subject.  Some think you don’t need to get positive energy from others.  Some think it’s essential.  You have another group in the middle.  So, let’s open up the floor:

  1. How important is hope to an artist?
  2. How would you describe the hope an artist might need?
  3. What would you do to instill hope in an artist?

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. I think you definitely need to have hope. It is a tricky one though. Other people can support and encourage, but hope has to come from inside. It is a personal feeling, but affected by external events.

    1. Very important, especially at a time when people think artistry is easily accomplished through AI.
    2. Many people hope to be discovered; that their hard work will pay off; that they will make a difference; that they will be appreciated.
    3. I feature writers on my blog. I write the blog as a reminder of the joy and hard work of creating with words and images. I’m in two critique groups where we encourage each other.

  4. Without hope you feel like you are just screaming into an endless void. Creatives of any type create for the purpose of creation, expression and giving their lives meaning, but a little appreciation is motivating.

  6. How important is hope to an artist? That varies by the person. Some are fortunate and have confidence naturally. Others definitely need to be supported and encouraged.

How would you describe the hope an artist might need? Again, it varies by what the artist needs. Some need for customers to buy their book or illustration in order to feel validated. Some need reviews or the buy-in of an agent. Some just need to be told “good job!”

What would you do to instill hope in an artist? First, purchasing the work. But then writing reviews or asking in person questions that show I really read and engaged with the story.
