I know Passover caused a blip in the topic, but it’s a really personal one. So, there isn’t much else I can say. Can’t give tips to people about getting hobbies because everyone is different. So, let’s enjoy some questions.
- What is one of your hobbies?
- How would you relate it to writing?
- Is there a hobby you want to adopt?
About Charles Yallowitz
Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

Metaphor is a good explanation. The can see that with so many hobbies.

Ditto L. Marie, except I knit. And I do like to swim every day – waiting anxiously for the pools to open here.

I know knitting and crochet are different. Just can’t figure out how exactly.

Knitting takes two needles or one circular needle. Crocheting uses one hook.

Got it. Needles vs hooks.

I enjoy walking in the woods, in particular with my guide dog Apollo.
Many of my poems are influenced by nature, including my woodland walks.
I also enjoy visiting pubs, sometimes with friends and fairly frequently alone. Just observing people can lead to the composition of a poem (whilst completely respecting the privacy of the person who sparked the idea, I.E. the idea or situation is utilised but not the person or persons involved).

People watching is a hobby that I keep forgetting about. Used to do that in college when I was resting outside. It really does help with poetry and fiction writing. Glad to see someone still does it frequently. Also, I’m impressed you go to pubs alone. That’s something I’m always scared to attempt.

One of my hobbies is cooking which relates to writing by having a recipe to follow and working the recipe to conclusion.
I would like to get back to auto mechanics as a hobby.

I read, keeps me up on the trends and brings me fresh ideas and approaches. Sometimes I think the author got it wrong and then I write my own story in response.
I do jigsaw puzzles for in between books and video games. I also garden. Which reminds me, Easter weekend means it’s time to plant potatoes.
I ride my bike when the weather is good, too. Not so much a hobby as for my health. But I do get some good story thinking done while gardening and biking.

Do you mean if an author gets the ending wrong, you write your own version? Also, I didn’t realize spring was potato planting time. For some reason, I thought they were more late winter.

Not an exact re-write with my own ending. I write my own story with a similar premise, but I bring in factors I feel the other author missed. Very often, if there’s a story problem that could be solved by talking rather than just shooting.
