So, I stumbled onto this month being ‘Mental Health Awareness Month’ and ‘Better Sleep Month’. An interesting combination, but one that makes sense. For today, I just want to see what people think of this pairing. Why do you think mental health and sleep are intertwined? (I’m going to give each month their own Sunday that will be more open forums and end with a post about the connection.)

About Charles Yallowitz
Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.
I wonder if there is someone at there organizations who keeps track of special months and then makes theirs fit an existing special month or is it random.

I think it’s just various organizations and groups that come up with this. Get enough people to accept it and it sticks around.

I’m currently on holiday with very dodgy WIFI. Yesterday I couldn’t get on any websites even though it said I had an excellent signal. Today is better but ve–ry slo-o-o-w.
So if I don’t reply to your posts, it’s not because I’ve died (probably), just that I can’t get onto your site!
I think there is a definite link between mental health and sleep. My nephew is bipolar, and his sleep patterns are all over the place. My son periodically suffers from depression, and during those periods he sleeps badly.

My anxiety makes sleeping a challenge, so I totally agree. Enjoy your vacation.

It isn’t hard to see how they are connected. If you don’t sleep well, it increases the likelihood of other mental health symptoms. And mental health symptoms definitely can affect how well you sleep.

True. Though, it’s weird how many people don’t make this connection.
