Yeah, I’m burning out right now with everything going on. Kind of got a hankering for junk food too. Sounds like a decent topic for the week. Of course, I’m going to have to open it up with my favorite guilty pleasure. Enjoy the funnies:

The UK Government is going to tackle obesity, with (almost) immediate effect, so Charles has come up with a way for you to get a (calorie free) junk food fix 😂

Are they really doing that? I have a feeling it won’t be anything really effective though. Probably taxes, so it comes off as a punishment. Too bad nobody tries to make healthier foods cheaper and more accessible than the unhealthy stuff. I’d definitely grab a salad on the go if it was available and not triple the cost of a burger.

They intend to ban all junk food adverts before 9:00pm on tv, ban candy, etc, from being near the checkout tills and being put on the lower shelves, within children’s sight and reach, and more. Plus, encourage more exercise, healthy eating, etc. It’s all being touted as a means of reducing the effects of Covid-19, because they found that overweight people are more likely to have serious issues develop. It’s a follow up from banning cigarette and soft drinks adverts totally and forcing commercial food processors to drastically reduce the sugar & salt content of their products.

So, remove temptation and ‘promote’ a healthier lifestyle without actually allowing for it. I always find it frustrating to see that being done as if all of us are doing this on purpose. If I could exercise even for 30 minutes a day without having to sacrifice sleep, time with my son, or rush through other things then I would.

I suspect the majority of folks have similar work / life balances to juggle with – funny thing is, our ‘Leaders’ are also pushing for us to use electric bicycles or scooters as alternatives to using Public Transport or our own cars…

Of course they are. People leave out the effect of anxiety and depression too. Many people use food as a way to handle it, but they go for things that are cheap and more easily at hand.

Apparently they are going to promote cycling as a way to lose weight, and ask doctors to prescribe it! Since much of the obesity is in the poorer sector of the community, are they going to provide bicycles or gym membership for these people who are obese because they can’t afford healthy food? If not, how can the afford bicycles or gym membership?

Yup. That’s the problem. People act like obesity is a solitary issue, but it tends to stem from other things. Poverty and mental health problems can both lead to poor physical health. Demanding that people ride a bike or purchase healthier, but more expensive, food won’t really work.
