The Week After Goal Post Apocalypse

This is the first song I heard today and I’m thinking of putting music videos at the beginning of my goal posts.  Anyway, this is a song that I probably needed after last week, which simply didn’t go right.  I’ve been thinking of this post since Tuesday, so I’m hoping I don’t miss anything.

Two snowstorms created two snow days. No writing or relaxing was had on those days, so my vacation kind of fizzled out.  The storms also stopped Greg from visiting and there’s no clue when we can try again.  Things were pretty sucky when you add  bad sales, a few arguments over if it’s time to quit writing, a horrible driving experience, and a head cold into this week.  Hence part of my breakdown on Friday, which I tried to keep hidden from most people.  I’ve always deleted the planned posts of depressing poetry that came from darker days because that wouldn’t help anybody.

The only silver lining on the week is that I started writing Sleeper of the Wildwood Fugue and got the first 2 chapters done.  Technically, I ‘finished’ 3 chapters if I’m allowed to count the fact that Nyx destroyed any chance of Chapter 2 making sense.  Anyway, I have this week to get more done and then the following week is Winter Break.  I read the calendar wrong before, so this is my last week of not having to entertain a toddler for the entire day when it’s too cold to go to the park and I can’t afford other outings.  Might spend a lot of time visiting the library, which means I’ll be hit and miss here.  At least all the posts are ready.

Speaking of posts, I’m no longer sure what I’m doing here.  I keep trying to think of interesting things to write about, but I’m running out of ideas.  I have the thought posts on parts of writing and an occasional publishing post, which go well.  The Legends of Windemere posts tend to fall flat, but that’s the name of the blog.  My poetry ability has been flaky as of late and I’m thinking of keeping that to the newly reopened Community Storyboard.  Maybe I’m trying too hard here or I’m still trying to toss off some of the remaining depression.

Goals for the week:

    1. Rest up for Winter Break and pray I can think of some things to do.
    2. Write more of Sleeper of the Wildwood Fugue.
    3. If edited file received then fix up Family of the Tri-Rune and format for looming release.  Aiming for March here.
    4. Plan a few things for Hype Week of 4th book.  Suggestions would be appreciated since the one for Allure of the Gypsies didn’t do very well.  Still aiming to do a Twubs Chat, but maybe it’ll be towards me instead of the characters.
    5. Outline more of Elysium Saga.
    6. Really try to hold onto the biking schedule.  Snowstorms somehow killed that.
    7. Eat, drink, and avoid flinging things at people who annoy me.Possibly post the blurbs for

Family of the Tri-Rune

later today to get some opinions on them.  That way I can try to put the Blog Tour package together, which shouldn’t be too hard.  I’m simply going to take most of what I did before and add review quotes for

Allure of the Gypsies

and switch in the new blurbs.  Cover art is making great progress too, so maybe I’ll make a call for the Cover Reveal even if I don’t have a date.  Anybody know how to do one of those Google Forms I see everywhere?Do the one thing I’ll remember I have to do after I make this post.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

It seems there is a question in you household of “when” to quit writing rather than “if”. That has to be bothersome as it seems that you are waiting for the ax to fall. Is your series at a point where it could be offered as a boxed set, or do you need to wait until it is done first? I have seen many authors on other sites claim much success with these.

  3. Hope you feel upbeat again soon. I think all your posts are really enjoyable, and I love fantasy authors. Long term bad weather always brings me down too.

  4. poetry is never flaky if it comes from the heart, Charles. your readers like the diversity of your blog, the fantast of windermere is interesting but the more personal stuff makes a compelling read as it is intriguing to discover what makes a writer tick. your honesty and openness makes us realize we are not alone, that others feel the same way we do, have the same distractions and responsibilities. Blogging is hit and miss, many of us are disappointed that posts we though were deserving of an audience only get a couple of comments whilst projects and pieces we believe of less value are getting tons of attention, don’t panic, pal. look at those who comment rather than those who click the ‘like’ button, they’re actually reading with some interest.. One day, I will find the time to do more reading and will give windermere the attention it deserves, until then, mon amis, I am an email away (kdavisfanclub@aol.com) should you want an honest opinion on anything.
I, for one, love these posts, Charles. Your’e a human being (that’s not your fault, you mortals were born this way), keep smiling and keep *&^%ing writing, sir!

    • By flaky I mean that I haven’t been able to come up with anything. Lack of topics, I guess.

I’ve been thinking about the ‘like’ button and how it works for different mediums. On WordPress, I use it to acknowledge a post I liked, but can’t think of anything to say. Happens a lot. Yet, it feels less personal on Facebook for some reason. Almost like it was autopilot on FB. Maybe because I see reblogging all the time on WordPress while FB people seem to never notice that Share option.

Having your scheduled derailed plus bad weather and cabin fever is more than enough to make anyone get depressed. Even if you don’t post about it, it’s good that you allow yourself to vent. Here’s hoping that a break in the weather will improve things for you. As for “when” you should quit writing, I guess that would be when you have written all that you can write. So you have a long ways to go 😉
