So, I did the restructuring and have those few ideas that are still clattering around. I’m going to save the worst for this weekend. The one I’m bringing up now revolves around another character from my high school years, Brian Hunter.
I got into James Bond and designed a spy. His original adventures were ridiculously over the top and he had appearances in a lot of the Super Earth stories. When I moved everything to Windemere, he came along and a lot of his stories fell away. They were very high-tech based and required Earth locations, so I needed new plans for him. Ironically, the title ‘Project Phoenix’ was the name of one of his books and revolved around the return of a deadly assassin who frames him. Cloning was involved too.
A few issues have come up with Brian Hunter, the worst of which is that he was very gun-oriented. Guns don’t go over well in fantasy and I know very little about them. I considered a magic crossbow, but Sin does that. Then, I decided to spend a week ‘researching’ guns in Windemere. This is where the Piecekeepers came from.
The Piecekeepers are the secret organization that protects the stability of the governments of the Ralian continent. They have been given guns due to an oath to Vawn Moran the Gnome God. Each weapon is protected by spells. Only the designated Piecekeeper can touch the weapon or it explodes. I’m talking take at least a hand off. The only way to touch a Piecekeeper’s weapon is if they’re holding it too. Also, copying magic and other spells that can steal items cause it to teleport to the caster and explode. This time it goes for the face. The bullets are protected too. If fired, they dissolve within a minute. If tampered with they . . . explode. Look, gnomes made these things and they dream of blowing stuff up. The whole point here is that this guns (all Six Shooters) are highly controlled and defended. Oh and the gods are able to take these away if they are abused to an extreme level or pose a threat. Final note: rogue Piecekeepers are hunted down by their former allies and whatever mercenaries can be rounded up. A certain hot-tempered caster has even gone after one of them and let’s just say it didn’t end well for the guy.
With that hurdle handled, I’m now left wondering about what kind of adventure to put Brian Hunter into. I might keep his first one as the introductory and use the plot of investigating an old girlfriend dealing in illegal weapons. After that, I’m not sure if I should make it a trilogy with a single plot or try to revamp some of his old stories to work in Windemere. I had a cyberterrorist story, a ‘Moonraker’ type story (destroy all but the chosen people), someone hunting undercover agents, and a few others. I guess I just wonder what this secret agent can really do in a world of magic and monster.





A Gunslinger type character? Like Roland of Gilead? That would work, and in fact he could become a main character as well, if for example Luke were to become indisposed for any length of time.

Different series. Luke is . . . busy by the time this story happens. Brian Hunter is more of a James Bond than a Roland. I picked the six-shooter Colt type because I wanted limited bullets. Modern day weapons hold too much ammo to make the restrictions of guns as believable. Also, I like the look of the six-shooter first.
Brian might debut or have a cameo in one of Sin’s books though.

Yeah. Legends of Windemere is 95% planned and set up. Always space for changes as I progress. All of these are what comes after.

This is beyond crazy as Brian Hunter is my boyfriend’s name and he happens to be a huge fan of James Bond. A little random but I was sort of struck by your post when I saw it on my reader.

Interesting. If he carelessly leaps off skyscrapers with a hidden parachute under his jacket then I apologize for copying his life. 😉
