The taste of bile
Within their mouths
At every word you wrote
This book is an abomination
Upon the literary world
Now it must be skinned

Accusations of cliche
And why it pales to others
Immature and bland
Too much action
Too much chatter
The descriptions are too long

A scathing review
With hurtful claims
This author should be banned
Or replaced by a mangy cat
Insults and declarations of hate
Over reasons for dislike

The author takes these barbs
Accepting they exist
Some people will be hateful
As you offend their tender rules
Let them rant and rave
With no depth to their debate

This is part of a set going up today about the different review types I’ve seen.  This isn’t saying any are good or bad, but there are interesting perspectives on some of these review types.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

Geez…must admit i’d not like to get such a bunch of nasties…doesn’t seem anything more than pure hatefulness…makes me shivver.

Oh, I hope this isn’t an excerpt from a review of one of your books, Charles. When reviews are hateful like that, as a reader, I just ignore them, and you should too. There are many people, myself included, who enjoy your books.

    • I got a 1-star a week or two ago, which was about 2-3 sentences. Nothing in there except how I’ll not be the next indie author to make it big. Some people really see reviews as a method of bashing.

I think that these types of reviews are just personal attacks and I don’t understand how they can possibly be seen to be beneficial to anybody. I am sorry if you have experienced this Charles. 😦

  4. I’ll just bet you set of reviewers could be matched to personality types. The Despiser = Introvert. Nice poem. I think you give the hateful ones more credit. You probably haven’t offended their tender rules since they really don’t have any. They hate those that do.

    • Very true. The Despiser being a bitter introvert would make sense. Those people that try to enjoy life by tearing people down. It’s one thing to hate a book and write why. It’s another to go after the author personally.
