Eyes flutter open
To see a starry sky
I stare upon their beauty
Oblivious
To the shadows all around
Faded trees
Of a desiccated forest
Formerly familiar
Now a phantom of the past
My heart clenches
When I see a star die out
Followed by another
Reaching up to save them
Hands of cold and need
Slithering
To pin me down
Forcing me to watch
As my starry sky burns out
About Charles Yallowitz
Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.
that is a very relatable piece of work.

Indeed. Sorry I haven’t commented in a while, Charles. Dentistry can be a big ass.

Don’t doubt it. Seems a lot of people took the summer off, so it’s nice to see some familiar bloggers returning.

Thanks. The books are doing well too. Though I just hit a cold patch, which is something I’m still trying to handle without panicking.

Wow, surprising panic. I am familiar with that unfamiliar forest, which I used to know so well…beautifully done.

There is a great sense of tension in this poem. You are great at giving the readers word pictures in their heads…
