Nostalgia Moments

Turning on Pandora
Expecting Freddie or Ozzy
Maybe Tyler, Bowie, or Rose
Instead I hear my new additions
To my private station
Voiceless, yet beautiful
Reminding me of times long past
Mario and Metroid with a little Link
Symphony from Transylvania
Final Fantasy victory
Followed by Her death song
All the memories flood back
Stinging eyes with tears
I miss the time
To play these magic games
And escape into my mind

I turned on Pandora and it has been playing classic video game music for the last hour.  I admit to getting teary-eyed with a few of them because I loved the stories.  I didn’t play for the points or the glory.  I played for the story and the characters.  To this day, I remember the joy of playing Final Fantasy 9 and I try to use a video game to take my mind off fasting for Yom Kippur.  My go to game used to be Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, but I don’t know where my copy went.  I found the soundtrack of it and if I keep typing I’ll simply keep going on about how much I love that game.

I actually have a collection of 100 video game haikus that I’m thinking of releasing in pairs or fives.  They were going to be published in a collection, but my friend who helped write them lost his illustration muse.  It’s one of those projects that it’s either both of us or it doesn’t happen.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. I never got into gaming. It came too late for me, but I liked this expression of your memory
