This was one of my favorite movies as a kid and this was one of my favorite scenes. I caught it tonight after putting the toddler to bed and realized something. The fight scene is amazing. Banter is corny, but not over the top. You don’t have a clear idea of who is going to win as it progresses. Dodging, parrying, and everything that makes a fight scene entertaining.
I wonder if watching this movie time after time had any effect on my ability to write fight scenes.
I can easily say that this is among the movies that influenced some of my fight scene writing. Plus, “Ninja, vanish” is a common catch phrase of mine, that for some sad reason no one ever seems to know where i’m getting it from…

I haven’t seen the movie in years, so I might have forgotten for a bit. Every time I mention ninjas these days, it’s Naruto. That’s really cool that you use the phrase.

Hey, can’t go wrong with the TMNT, I find. That franchise was a huge part of my childhood.

I’m glad to see it’s still going strong. At least until Bay gets his demonic talons into it.

Don’t get me started on the A-Bay-Monation in the franchise’s future. I’m dreading it so much, it brought about an absolutely horrific pun!

I fear that it will tank and take the franchise with it.

Banter! That’s the word I’ve been trying to come up with to describe your talent. Really. You are most excellent at banter:>)

Thanks. I have to give credit to watching movies like this, Marx Brothers, and Spider-Man. Really helped hone the wit.

Mr Bay does for subject matter, plot, character and story telling exactly what he does to every car, building, street, town, and city, he blows them to pieces.

Yeah. Not sure how he got picked for Ninja Turtles since ninjas are supposed to be stealthy. Explosions are definitely not stealthy.

Probably because despite his artistic failings he can make the same amount of money as that of a medium sized nation’s GDP! Sigh.

Nothing wrong with that! The Ninja Turtles are still a guilty pleasure of mine. But in writing fight scenes, I’m probably influenced more by movies like Hero; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; and Iron Monkey.

Those are great too, but you’re missing Enter the Dragon.

I do love some good banter in a fight scene. So much more interesting than real life. 😉

Definitely. Though I have seen one or two real life banter-laden fights. Never fast paced though. Banter tends to slow down the speed.
