Facebook Groups for Marketing

I just started looking into these and I realized how many they are.  Some even lead to cheap advertising sites.  I’m looking at one site that has a $5 package where you get posted on their Facebook page and a Tweet to their 8,000+ followers.  They also have a $10 package that includes a cover shot on their site.  Finally, they have a $20 package that has all of the above and the site runner buys your book to make an honest review.  That’s pretty damn cheap and the site is called Indie Author Anonymous.  I’m waiting to hear back from them for more details.

Here is what I’m putting under my Advertising Sites link for Facebook Groups:

There are several Facebook groups that you can promote on.  The ones that I use are Novelspot Readers, Heroic Fantasy, Authors and Book Lovers Discussion Group, and Indie Author Book Promotion Page.  There are hundreds of others if you go hunting and I’m still picking a few up.  Follow their rules and promote your book for a few sales and exposure.  I haven’t figured out how best to use them and how often to post.  Maybe once every 2-3 days to avoid over doing it.

I’ll say this.  I posted on Authors and Book Lovers Discussion Group.  Somebody told me they downloaded a copy of Beginning of a Hero before I even finished posting about Prodigy of Rainbow Tower.  Something to think about there.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

Working on getting into the Authors and Book Lovers Discussion Group. I know there is a lag of several hours, but so far being out there on GoodKindles has done nothing for sales. I’m struggling with the recognition that .99 may be the only way to go.

    • During the summer, it might be a useful option. I’m still nervous about my intention of boosting to $2.99 after Labor Day. I’m wondering if it’s a good idea or maybe it will work better if I can get on the list and then do it. I have no idea how these other fantasy authors sell so much with a $2.99 price tag. When I did it for my first book, it didn’t do very well. Unless this trick is more to pull off .99 cent sales to give people the illusion of an idea.

Not sure what to say about Goodkindles. I got a small boost from it when I pushed Beginning of a Hero back up the list, but it may come down to timing. Which package did you get?

I bought the most expensive package on Goodkindles. And, now, almost 24 hours later, it’s done nothing for me. I just moved Bridgeport back up to 2.99. I’m going to keep both of them at that price for a couple of weeks, then I’m going to alternate free days with each of them, drop Bridgeport back to .99 and see what happens.

      • Good luck. I wonder if their change made them less effective. Then again, I’m starting to wonder how much genre factors in. Fantasy is common on Goodkindles, so that might be a factor. Also free periods seem to be a boost to romance that continues on, but fantasy doesn’t have the same response.

Still nothing from ereadernewstoday. I think they’re a wash for me.

What did they change? I’m disappointed for you regarding ereadernewstoday. Seems they could at least send you an email.

      • The packages are new. They used to only have a donate 7-25 bucks depending on what you could afford. Do they still have the author listing? You put a Goodkindles icon on your site and they list you as an author for free.

I keep waiting for an e-mail, so I’m confused on what happened with them.

If you’ve got the time, Facebook is the way to go in terms of advertising.

I’ve got literally over a 100 Facebook-related groups and pages for advertising your FREE book or just any book in general.

But boy does it take time. The only thing you have to watch out for is not posting too much, or else they’ll lock down your Facebook account for 24 hours or more (lol it’s happened to me before).

My short stories on Amazon have had over 1500+ downloads and I am pretty sure that 80% of the downloads come from Facebook groups.

I could go on and on about it because Facebook groups = FREE advertising!

But I’ve got a book to finish. Beginning of a Hero another 40 pages to go!

    • I forgot about the lockdown issue. I have about 4-5 groups and I’ll promote on them 2-3 times a week. Funny thing about the lockdown is that Facebook tries to function as an advertising site. I guess they don’t want you promoting too much if they’re not getting a cut.

Do you know what some of the big Facebook sites are on there?

      Enjoy that book ending.

Charles, you need to add DP Fitzsimmons on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dan.fitzsimons.33

He’s the author of The Eden Project and this guy posts on like every Facebook group imaginable. I believe he’s also a full-time author like yourself, and also just released Book 2 of his series about a month or 2 ago.

His first book managed to get heaps of downloads during it’s freebie period earlier this year and he’s been riding the success off it all along as he’s still on the Top 100 lists.

Feel free to send him a message after you’ve added him and ask him what methods he believes is the most popular. He should get back to you. I asked him the same about a while back, but I’m sure he’s got the bigger list of Facebook group and which ones are the most effective.

Just finished your book by the way. Review up on Wednesday at the earliest.

Great idea that had not occurred to me. I’m looking at the many advertising websites, such as Authors Marketing club and Free Booksie, that have a combination of free and paid. Now you gave me another option, how am I ever supposed to have time to write!

    • I’m running into that challenge too. Though, somebody just warned me that if I promote too much in a short period of time, I get locked out of Facebook for 24 hours. Guess I’ll have to behave.
