I haven’t done a post on how Beginning of a Hero is doing for a long time. The reason is because it isn’t doing much. The summer slump and delay on the sequel have taken their toll. I’ve yet to appear on the eReader News Today newsletter, which isn’t surprising since I’m sure it’s a long list. So, I don’t know how effective that is going to be.
I keep wondering if I should hunt down another interview or guest blog. Part of me thinks I should save some for the release of the sequel because I do think that will help me and patience is key.
Still, I see other indie authors are already at multiple books even during a period that is supposedly a rough time to be an indie author. It gets oddly frustrating to feel like I’m being left behind. Will I return stronger than before? Very good chance of that since the first book was so popular. It’s just very difficult to see all of the momentum I gained go into dormancy.
What to do? Keep writing The Compass Key and working toward the final edit of Family of the Tri-Rune. Stop looking at the Amazon ranking too. At least until I get a notification from eReader News Today to see what happens. Also, figure out a few decent posts to make.
Goals of the week?
- Finish another chapter of The Compass Key.
- Outline more of Curse of the Dark Wind.
- Read.
- Blog.
- Possibly do a little character designing on The Slumber Wars.
- Continue dealing with that personal problem that has me off my mental game.
- Continue working on special project.

If you even complete 1, 3, 4 and 6 you can’t possibly be in a very bad slump. 🙂

It’s a sales slump actually. Summer is slow for book sales, especially with indie authors. The productivity isn’t much of a problem most days.

Oh good. Fall will be here soon.

I still need my sequel to recover. The cover art is coming along.

Which of your books should I start with? I haven’t combed through your work yet.

All I have out is Beginning of a Hero, which is the first of the series. Prodigy of Rainbow Tower is the sequel and I’m hoping it will be out this month.

Ok. I’ll check it out. My wife is a huge fantasy fan; 800 page Jordan books in two days type. I’ll let her give the review… Thanks.

Thanks. Hopefully, you and your wife like it. My writing style is rather nontraditional for the genre. A lot of humor and present tense writing. Apparently, it’s jarring if people aren’t ready for it.

That sounds good. I have grown fond of indie writers. The absence of corporate pressure really shows in the creative process. I hope to have my first book out in early Fall.

Fall sounds like a great time since you have a slew of holidays. What genre?

I am putting together a collection of short stories. I figure that’s a good way to be introduced. I’m not sure how to label my fiction yet. I am still developing my style and I’m thinking that getting this project done might help me in my direction. I’ll have to blog the details of the stories; I try not to write books in comments. 😉

Literary fiction could work. Without knowing the exact story or setting, I really couldn’t say. Good luck.

Thanks. I try not to put myself in that category when I am so green, but it works for at least two of my stories.

Don’t worry about being too green for a category. You are what you are. Experience doesn’t determine genre.

Perhaps if you move #6 to #1 and handle it first, the other 5 will take care of themselves….
😀
(Total Projection, btw, on my part – If I can’t write, it means I’m ruminating on something else…. LOL)
Lotsa Luck!

#6 won’t be fixed for a long, long time. If I put all of my energy into it, people probably wouldn’t see me here for the rest of the year. Or you’d see a very dark, miserable wretch in my place. I really can’t go into further details on that one. I probably shouldn’t have put it on the list anyway.

Just avoid the very tempting #8 start something new. 🙂 (I fall for that all too often.)

I fall into that one a lot. I’ve been good about it so far.

Did one and I’m working on a few collaborations. The writing part isn’t the issue. It’s the sales that are the slump.

Ugh! Well hopefully things pick up on that end soon when people go indoors for the fall 🙂

The sequel should help, but that might not be until the end of the month.
