Self-Publishing Advertising: AskDavid.com New Trick

Don’t worry, fellow writers.  This is a trick that goes in our favor and I think it’s incredibly cool.  This really makes me have a lot more love for this site.

AskDavid.com is one of the sites I used to promote Beginning of a Hero.  It can be a little hard to figure out at first and requires an exclusive book description, but it’s $10 for their special program.  I will point out that this is the site I set up with and 24 hours later I was on the Amazon lists.  Not sure if this is the cause, but it definitely had a hand in it.

Anyway, I got an e-mail from them and I was surprised by what they’re now allowing authors to do.  Once every 3 hours, you can go to a part of their site, follow their simple tweet-building steps, and create a promotional tweet for your book.  You only get one hashtag, but you can choose any of the links listed on your book’s page including the Amazon sales page or even your twitter.

This tweet goes up on their twitter feed (@Free_Book_Promo), which has 16,000+ followers at this time.  I think this is a great tool for self-published authors and it can be really helpful for people that aren’t too good at tweeting.  You can even retweet this tweet for your own twitter feed.

So, if you haven’t signed up with AskDavid.com and have the $10 to put toward advertising.  I really recommend this site.

Thanks for the recommendation. Just had a quick look at the site and worked out what to do – the only thing is, I am on KDP Select at the moment – does that matter? I can’t see why it would as this is just a promotional tool which will point sales to Amazon anyway, I was only concerned when I read the bit about him getting commission from Amazon.?? Thanks.

    • I’m in KDP Select too and it’s never been a problem. He’s advertising and not selling the book through his site. The commission means he’s working with Amazon too, so he’s under their umbrella. Didn’t notice that part when I joined.

I tried askdavid.com a few weeks ago and, as near as I can tell, it did nothing for my sales. I wonder if there are ways to enhance how the site features your book and I just didn’t take advantage?

    • The only thing I saw was $10 for premium service. Maybe it wasn’t as effective as I thought.

Different people may have different experiences. One of the things I’ve done, somewhat unintentionally, is go with one promotional site at a time. Has given me a good sense of which ones did anything for me.

      • I went for a bunch of them within a few days of each other. Which ones worked out for you?

EReaderNewsToday. Goodreads giveaway. Other than that I haven’t seen anything noticeable happen with any others. Maybe I’ll write a post about it.

      • I’m going to try the EReaderNewsToday when I drop back to .99 cents. My only concern with that is the 4.0 overall rating. That tells me I can get dropped if I get too many negatives or Amazon hits me again.

    • Not sure if this is because of the AskDavid.com tweet that I did this morning, but I just got 4 sales in 30 minutes. The only advertising I did was a tweet through AskDavid.com (complete with a retweet to mine) and a tweet off my book’s Amazon page. Maybe the site isn’t useful if left alone, but you take advantage of their tweet program, it gets some results.

Maybe I’ll try their tweet service and see what happens. But, I think I did when I signed up for the $10 premium service. The problem I saw was that the site released so many tweets so relentlessly, I didn’t see how it could have any impact. But, I might have that confused with the other site I signed up for at the same time.

      • I just made another post to update. It didn’t work the way I thought. I’m thinking of trying the 30 tweets for $10 when my second book comes out. Figure it’s not a bad thing to do if I do 1 post a day, except Sundays.

  8. I’ll have to check out this web site. I am also a self-published author, but, as anyone who keeps up with my blog knows, my marketing skills are less finely tuned than a barrel of monkeys flinging shit at one another. So thanks for the advice!
