(This is the 8th Anniversary Poem)
We met
Among the dice
You with your mage
That forgot her role
Me with my warrior
Showing you the rules
Our characters never wed
Though Clyde and Mab came close
All stopped as friends
Or no strings to tie us tight
Other couples played the part
While we kept our love away
That was only fiction
Reality was rougher
Battling mistakes and falls
Through fights
And epic frustration
We have come this far
Eight years as one
And we still butt heads
Not always seeing eye to eye
Forgetting
Overreacting
A truly imperfect couple
The dice are packed away
Character sheets are stored
We play out new roles
Parent and spouse
Bonded by our stubbornness
And enduring love

What he is saying is no one else could put up with him;).

Pretty much, but the same goes for her. We stick together due to the knowledge that we’re pretty sure nobody else in the world would deal with our individual issues. π

Probably the best word we have to describe it.

It was pungent enough for me to keep on reading, and I am not a poetic seeker. Yes, it had great feeling of two imperfect people compelled to stay together no matter

Thanks. My wife and I are definitely two imperfect people, which we acknowledge. Confuses us when people are thrown off by us acting imperfect.

I just recommended this on Facebook for my daughter and son-in-law. They met through a gaming group (in fact, they were married in medieval garb).

We had a Ren-Style wedding too. Tight budget made us cut a few corners, but it was a lot of fun. Even when the best man stole some of my swords and tried to smuggle them into the wedding.

I have yet to meet anyone who is actually perfect. Where do you find one of those?

Perhaps you and she are not perfect… but you’re perfect for each other. That’s love. You take all the good stuff… and mix it in with a bit of the quirkiness that you both bring into the relationship, and make a ‘home’ together… a family… a life. Great post my friend π

Thanks. I was hoping to add all of our characters into the poem, but only Clyde and Mab seemed to fit. Probably because she has a lot more characters than I do.

You are a romantic! Lovely poem. My husband and I feel the same way about each other (that is, nobody else would put up with us) and we have been together continuously since June 1986. Yeah, the Ice Age π

It wasn’t that cold back then. π Was that when you got married or started dating? If you don’t mind me asking.

We started dating in February 1983. As my luck would have it, he was in the process of joining the Peace Corps. So he went to Ecuador for two years, but we stayed in touch. He invited me for a visit and of course I went. Apparently that sealed the deal for him (I had already been in love with him all that time). When he came back to the States, he came back to me and that’s been since June 1986 π

Congrats then. June seems to be a popular month for marriages. Maybe it’s lucky.
