One of the originals that survived the various changes, I’ve always had the same story for him. He’s a half-demon designed from an experiment to see what happens when demon DNA and angel DNA are combined with human DNA. The answers is that the human DNA corrupts the angel DNA and tempers the demon DNA. So, he’s got a bad temper with amazing powers, but the half-angel from the program is freaking nuts. I’ve changed his powers a lot since then and I’m still in the process of doing so a final time.
He was always a moody, temperamental character to counter all the other excited characters who dreamed of being heroes. He’d warm up throughout the series, but without actually writing any of this, I have no idea what would have happened to him. I see him as a Wolverine development.
The original story had him as an assassin and he killed the first target of a ninja girl, which got her kicked out of her clan. So, he’s agreed to protect her and they are recruited into Project Phoenix. He had super speed and high combat skills in this form with a demon form that appeared near the end. They had the romantic storyline, but the end had a war between humans and superhumans, which he was corrupted in. He had to be put down in the final battle because he lost his humanity.
The current version is similar, but the end isn’t set in stone. He is the reason the Mylrixians were sealed away. An enemy made the mistake of killing Eryx’s son and he went berserk. Being one of the most powerful Mylrixians, he nearly wiped out the others and had to be put down by the gods themselves. He created a loophole in the Law of Influence where the gods can step in if one of their chosen is too powerful for mortals and there is no time to build up a mortal defense. Fearing that it would happen again, Gabriel had the other Mylrixian powers sealed and their memories wiped. They wake up again when a being finds the reincarnated Eryx (and a few others) and awakens his powers and memories. This time around, Eryx remembers everything he did and is terrified of repeating his mistakes. He’s also waiting for the reincarnation of his son and his wife, the Gearhead Princess. She’s a special case of sealing because of something that happened to her before the events of Eryx’s outburst. His powers are going to be difficult because I want them to slowly evolve. Every time you see him, he’ll have a new ability, which is something else that scares him. Truthfully, he’s becoming a very paranoid character as I progress, which is really different from the tough assassin he started as.
I want to have an extended undertone throughout the series where every character is either hateful or nervous around Eryx because they all remember what he did. I’m not sure how easily this can play out unless I have him in every book, but I don’t know how many times I can give him a cameo without it being ridiculous. Probably best to wait and see what works.

(no need to publish unless you want to – thought is for you) I have a ‘cameo’ problem too, I have a bunch (ok only 4 at the moment) of short stories about diffrent demons, all of whom are mentioned in my ‘main book’. You already read “rakasha”. In the book in one section, a demon debates about handing over a mugger to the Rakasha, ultimatly deciding he hadn’t earned that privilage. where I get stuck is if someone hasn’t read the short, that statement makes only a little sense, if they have, thats very funny [to me anyway] – thoughts ?

I think that’s a good idea only because it can interest someone into reading Rakasha. A few well places mentions of another story or a brief cameo from a hero in another story can help. Some of the heroes who survive Legends of Windemere will make appearances in other series when it makes sense. It helps create a sense of connection between stories that occur in the same world.
My nervousness with Project Phoenix is that a cameo character like Eryx can take over a story. He’s done it before in past incarnations of this series. This is probably more of a problem of my self-control though.
