Rebuilding My Internet

For those keeping score, I didn’t come out ahead yesterday.  Crippling stomach pain that seems to have actually been a locking of a lower back muscle.  Couldn’t even finish editing the shortest chapter of Book 4.  Toddler tantrums, no appetite, and a few other minor things.  This all culminated in an 11pm death of my Mozilla Firefox, which prevented me from doing just about everything.  I’m in the process of rebuilding my bookmarks and toolbars.

The plus side of yesterday is: 435 ebook sales and I’m in the 30’s and 40’s on the sales lists.  Now, I’m curious about something here and I’m sure only the universe can answer this one.  What happens if I reach #1 on a list?

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

Someone bakes you a cake? 🙂 I think that should be a definite possibility.

I’ve put in a request for brownies, but I think it’s still being processed and decided on.

The cookie brownie kind? It’s delicious!

We got the tray to make brownie pops. We don’t have the sticks though, it usually becomes mini-brownies. Last time was peanut butter cream brownies.

Excuse me while I pick my jaw up from the floor. Peanut butter cream brownies? Like a Reese’s cup brownie?

Well the next stage is figuring out how to get the PB cream into the brownie. The first time was to test out the tray and cream recipe. She put a dollop of the cream on top and let it cool in the fridge, so it thickened.

Interesting and mouth watering. Especially when breakfast consisted of one cup of bitter coffee.

Have you been able to hop back on the band wagon for your book?

I just finished repairing all of my bookmarks and everything else I lost when I had to reinstall Firefox. I’ll be getting to the editing in a few minutes. Left most of the characters in a rather dangerous situation. I’m going to need to negotiate for some weekend editing time to finish my editing goal for the week.

After murdering three computers, I just started emailing all my bookmarked websites to myself so that should I lose this one (pc#4) that I’m not screwed again. It might help in the future. 🙂

I used to do that and stopped when I had a computer last for 6 years. The plus side here is that I had so many bookmarks that I never touched, so it acted like a clean up.

I should hope Amazon would promote your 1st book much more if you reach #1 on any of the lists, as well as giving a bigger push towards your 2nd book from the get go. Here’s hoping anyway 🙂

I hope so, but I’m not KDP Select, so I don’t think Amazon is putting anything behind me. I have too many friends with Nooks and Ipads, so I can’t go Kindle exclusive right now. Though, I assume somebody is going to notice a mystery author sitting on top of the list. I think it was just 2 days ago that a self-published author hit the #1 Kindle seller spot, so people are taking notice of unknowns. Guess we’ll wait and see. Either way, it’s a grand opening and it’s still selling. All I’m missing are book reviews . . . preferably 3-5 star reviews.

Oh ok. I really enjoy reading about the progress of your book and happy it’s doing so well. It gives me some insight into the expectations I may hope to go through someday myself. Just curious, but at what point would you stop considering yourself an unknown author? Would it be when your fanbase or sales reach a certain number?

I’m not sure. Maybe when I have 3 books out or when I get mentioned in an article that I didn’t contact first. It’s hard to say because I think it’s also a matter of my own confidence in how I’m doing. Though, I think the fanbase is a bigger factor than sales. A ton of people can buy the book, but it’s more important that they like it and are waiting for the sequel. That might be it actually.

Haha yes. I think it would be an overwhelming feeling when you start receiving letters from fans looking for their next fix into the world of Windemere. The good thing about writing a series of books is that you will still get newcomers who take an interest when they see a book 2, book 3 and so forth climbing the charts thus seeking out the first book. I know I have done this myself plenty of times.

Yeah. I always thought I wouldn’t hit these lists until book 2 and 3 came out. So, I’ve been thrown off my original plan by this. I’m waiting to hear back from my cover artist about what he thinks of all this. I’ve already received sketches for the book 2 cover and I think it’s going to be better than the first. 🙂

  4. Maybe the breaking of your browser ushered in your increase in sales. Could this be the universe’s twisted sense of humor? 🙂
