It’s the Jewish New Year. It’s the year 5787 for the Jewish calendar. I don’t really get it either. It’s a lunisolar calendar that supposedly starts at the creation of the universe and has a leap year every 19 years. Anyway, it’s celebrated by dipping apples in honey, which is always a nice snack. There are prayers involved too. Not to mention the shofar, which is a ram’s horn that is blown. That’s fun.

Shana Tova, Charles! 🍎🍯 The apples-and-honey tradition sounds like such a sweet, simple way to welcome a new year genuinely wish more calendars started with a nice snack. Hope 5787 brings you a wonderful year ahead.

Agreed on years needing to start with a snack. Preferably a sweet one that doesn’t include alcohol. Have a happy new year too.

My grandmother used to count the years by observing the moon cycles. I find the concept of a leap year confusing.

I think a lot of what humans do to log time is confusing. Time is really ambiguous while humans defined parts of it.

I wish you a blessed holiday. When your relatives start to bother you, just blow the ram’s horn some more!

Thanks. Don’t have one of those in the house though. I settled for going to the park.
