Rare Flowers of the World

I realized that I’m always talking about animals, which is because that’s an area of interest for me.  Yet, nature also has plenty of flowers.  I’m going to try to do a few scattered about if I can think of fun topics with them.  Today, I got curious and looked up some of the rarest flowers of the world.  Stopped myself after nine, so enjoy:

Black Bat Flower- Self-pollination and very delicate

Chocolate Cosmos- Believed to be extinct, but then rediscovered

Corpse Flower- smells like rotting flesh and blooms randomly every 3-8 years

Fire Lily- rare due to modern agricultural practices

Franklin Tree Flower- Extinct in the wild, but cultivated for lawn ornamentation

Ghost Orchid- Critically endangered due to poaching, climate change, and habitat destruction

Middlemist’s Red Camellia- WORLD’S RAREST FLOWER WITH ONLY TWO DOCUMENTED EXAMPLES

Night-Blooming Cereus- Hard to find and slow growth

Youtan Poluo- Said to bloom only once every 3,000 years

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

They are all very lovely, Charles, except for maybe the corpse flower. They have one in the arboretum here. It bloomed last year.

  2. A super assortment. The red camellia is a shocker in that only two plants exist.

I hope I never have to smell a corpse flower. The ghost orchid is very cool.

  5. I love them all, even a corpse flower. But that ghost orchid is just begging to be made into a creature, like a jungle sprite or something.

Lovely flowers, Charles. The last one is amazing. How do they estimate that?
