Questions 3: Kissing Scenes

I was thinking of making a long post about this topic, but I realized that I don’t dwell on kissing scenes.  Since I don’t write romance, I just have the characters kiss and move on.  I don’t describe it much.  Hand position and feelings are there, but that might be it.  So, I’m going to ask questions of the audience.  Maybe I’ll learn something:

  1. What do you think is important for a kissing scene?
  2. What is a mistake authors tend to make about kissing scenes?
  3. What would you consider the best kissing scene that one should take notes from?

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

    1. Characters need chemistry and good dialogue to build up the emotion.
    2. Well, this is just my opinion of course, but some authors think putting two attractive characters together will make a great scene. But we’ve seen movies starring attractive actors who have zero chemistry together.
    3. I can’t speak toward what is the best. These are just suggestions: Return to Me with David Duchovny and Minnie Driver (great emotion); The Princess Bride (comedy and great dialogue); The Fellowship of the Ring (Aragorn and Arwen; high fantasy romance)
