Happy Sesame Street Day

Sesame Street

Stumbled onto this and had to do a post about it.  Like many people, I grew up on Sesame Street.  I believe the group up top is the cast I grew up with since Elmo wasn’t around that much.  This was the 1980’s.  The show has been around for a long time and appears in multiple countries, which is amazing.  My son was never heavy into ‘Sesame Street’, but was into the ‘Elmo’s World’ part.  Wonder what the show will be like when he has kids since I assume it’ll out last us all.

So, do any other people have fond memories of this show?  My favorite was the big reveal that Snuffleupagus was real.  That was probably my first big plot twist/shift when watching a show.

Enjoy the theme song too:

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. It appeared on our screens when my daughter had just been born ( 1982/3 ) and we had our first video recorder. I used to record it for my three year old son and switch it on when I was feeding the baby so we could sit and watch it together. He loved Ernie and Bert.

My kids loved Sesame Street and we watched it together. I made them puppets of Ernie and Bert. A great show.

  3. My kids loved Sesame Street. We all watched the show in the morning. There were puppets at home, and we were learning our ABCs along with the characters.

My kids grew up with Sesame Street. Much like Mister Rogers, it touched on all the important things for kids, plus all the fun characters. I still have their favorite book with Grover, “There’s a Monster at the End of the Book”, well worn from reading it a million times. At school we often pull up Sesame Street songs, as big-time singers perform with the characters. It’s wonderful! Great then, great now. BTW, do you know where Bert and Ernie’s names come from? The taxi drivers in the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life.” I love that!
