Digimon
We’ll see how this goes. I couldn’t think of another way to end this topic since it’s fairly simple until you get into specific details. Let’s try to answer questions from both sides of the coin here.
- How would you feel if you were summoned to a fantasy world to go on an adventure?
- What would make you useful if you were summoned for an adventure?
- What type of person or creature would you summon and why?

About Charles Yallowitz
Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.
How would you feel if you were summoned to a fantasy world to go on an adventure?
As previously discussed, I would be furious at someone who thought they could use me as a tool
What would make you useful if you were summoned for an adventure?
This is actually an interesting question. Maybe I’m being too prosaic, but I have no special powers or abilities. I do know how to grow vegetables, so I guess whoever summons me had better need help raising crops. Or they need a secretary who write things down so they can look at records later.
What type of person or creature would you summon and why?
It would be someone who was about to die, and my summoning them would prolong their life. Maybe a lynching victim or a supposed witch who was burned at the stake.

So you would summon to save a person. Interesting twist. There was a game that had soldiers summoned from battle an instant before they died. It was to use them in a special time/dimension force.

1. Probably angry, depending on how and when I was summoned (like if I was yanked from my world while in the tub or doing something else important). But if I was sitting around bored and had the skillset, I’d be down for it.
2. I would hope to be summoned because I’m a master planner like Odysseus. Whether or not I am has yet to be proved 😊.
3. Merlin or a unicorn. I’m leaning more toward the unicorn. Or a Pegasus. Who wouldn’t want to fly on one of those? Though Merlin could turn me into a bird and I could fly on my own.

Merlin strikes me as a summon who would go home and then return the favor.

😄😄 So true! Maybe he isn’t the best one to call.

If I were summoned to a fantasy world I would feel kidnapped and out of my element. I wouldn’t have the tools around me that would help me in the situation. If I were summoned I think I would be useful in being able to plan out the mission including the objectives and milestone reports. If this did happen I would summon the meanest, badest, strongest, and most magical warrior to help me cope. (of course, the warrior would do my bidding.)

Seems a lot of people would be the planner. They’d also be angry and upset about being summoned. Really shows how fiction is unrealistic or summoned heroes require a really specific mentality.

Which raises the question, who does the best job with summoned heroes?

Most stories don’t let the summoners choose. It’s magic that picks someone who is well suited for the adventure. Whether they realize it or not.

1. I would feel a mixture of excitement and fear. Not knowing anything about this world, I would not know the dangers, nor the good things, either. I would be like a baby.
2. I’m unsure, if I were summoned now as I’m getting on a bit. I wouldn’t be able to run away if necessary. However, I think my life experience might come in useful for advice, and I think I’m a pretty good judge of character, so that might be useful to adventurers.
3. Now what would I summon. Probably a wolf. They are loyal to their pack, and protect it. Great family animals, and fierce when needed. A wolf would also be a great help in hunting for food in the wilds.
I originally thought a dragon. I love dragons, but they are rather large and egotistical, so might be a liability.

Dragons definitely get a bad rep. Plenty of nice ones out there.
I think the better summoned hero stories involve the characters who learn about the new world. An inquisitive nature might be necessary.

I agree. You would definitely need to be curious to survive in an alien world.

1. Terrified, but I’d give it a go.
2. Not much, really. I suppose I’d have to be a minstrel or a storyteller. Nothing practical, certainly.
3. I’d summon a wise talking dog.

I’m always iffy on talking animals. Mostly because I expect them to be smartasses.

You have a point there. If my dog could speak she would definitely be a smartass. And cheeky with it.

I’d probably be irked at being summoned. Might miss supper or a favorite show. I could be swayed if it was a really cool world. I’d probably want some massive firepower to deal with whatever I come up against. As for my own summon, I’ve been planning out the summoning of a familiar. I’d want one of my own that can sneak into places, perform some small tasks, and report to me.

Sounds like you want a ferret familiar. 😁
