Getting the weekly goal post out of the way since I’m diving back into Windemere and social media tomorrow. Have 2 weeks to finish Book 11 and 3 weeks before the next big trip. Might be another quiet period, but I’ll try to schedule a bunch and respond to things every day. Longer driving trip than this one. Where did I go?
Mystic, CT was the destination, which was a 3 hour drive. We actually went 20 minutes north of the Bed & Breakfast on the first day. Our target was a movie theater to see ‘MAD MAX: FURY ROAD’, which was awesome. Then the B&B, which was very relaxing and homey. The bathtub had water jets. The TV had a DVD player. The bed was really soft. The homemade breakfasts were amazing. Definitely not a place to bring the kid until he’s older. The house was 250 years old, but in great condition. It’s called ‘Captain Grant’s Bed and Breakfast‘ if you’re looking for a place to stay in Connecticut. Here are some outdoor pics. Most of the trip pics are on the wife’s camera:
- Main House
- House We Stayed In
- Field Outside
The big day was Saturday and we headed to the Mystic Aquarium. It was fun, but I realized that these places are more fun with a kid around. So I kind of missed my shadow for a lot of it. Sure, my wife kept wandering off whenever my back was turned and I’d have to hunt for her without going to information for a lost child announcement. I’d like to think she was doing it to make me feel better, but her ADD seemed to be running high when she was getting hungry. So we ate at the Aquarium and went to the main shopping area. Got some yummy ice cream after walking along the docks for a bit and then went back to the B&B to rest. Went out again for some local pizza and then rested with some Supernatural Season 9. All we really wanted was some lazy, downtime. Never got to my notebooks, which is a shame because I have a ton of stuff in my head for an upcoming idea. Need to get that down before August, so I have a project to work on during my exile. Apparently the 10-year anniversary present my wife got me is a week in a nearby hotel by myself. It’s great, but I’m having trouble wrapping my head around being away from this little guy for so long:
Anyway, the last day was a great breakfast followed by ‘JURASSIC WORLD’ and the traffic-filled ride home. I’ll probably hit the notebook after writing this to get some stuff down. I need to list the States that one would go through to get from Long Island, NY to San Francisco, CA. I might post more about this story on Thursday if I get enough headway.
So, what am I going to do this week?
- Catch up on social media stuff.
- Write more of Book 11.
- Outline more of this story that doesn’t have a name.
- Get back into father mode.
- Figure out why I’m wearing my pajamas backwards.
- Rest up and get back into biking.
- Accept that I have no idea or urge to cook this week. Simple stuff it is.
- Get something to drink.
Good to be back. Hope everyone had a fun weekend.

Wow, the name Mystic, CT has so much potential in it. Glad you got some fun time.

Welcome back, Charles. Love CT…lived in Danbury, CT for years (went to high school there). Recently went on vacation to NYC, then on to CT & MA. Beautiful countryside, so many trees! Glad you had some fun, and the B&B sounds delightful! Christine

Thanks. Though it seems I caught a small fever and some exhaustion on the ride back. Might be starting off slow this week, but I had fun. Some family live up in CT, so I’ve always been visiting. They used to live around Torrington, but I forgot the nearest city to where they live now.

Wow, I think it would take me some time to get my head around a week by myself too! It’s like a dream come true, and if the place is local, you can cheat a little if necessary 😉 The trip sounded wonderful. I got that you enjoyed Mad Max, but you never said what you thought of Jurassic World. I went to see it with my youngest daughter and we loved it! 😀

Can’t cheat that much or I’ll get stuck back at the house. Not sure what to do about leaving the room to let housekeeping clean stuff though. I definitely liked Jurassic World. Not as great as the first one, but very entertaining. Honestly, the Indomitus Rex was the only thing that I find a little off. For some reason, the thing didn’t click with me.

It could be the dodgy name! We also didn’t see a great deal of it, to be fair, so there was no time to gel, as it were. I felt more when the T-Rex was released…it felt like a Kraken moment!

I think a big part was that it seemed to develop a ‘power’ for every obstacle. It had too many tricks up its non-existent sleeves, so it reached a point where I saw it more as a plot device than a character. I found the other dinos and the humans more interesting. Though (avoiding spoilers) there was one character that I think got the most horrific death in the entire series. Like the character did something to piss off the dinosaurs when they weren’t in it a lot.

I have to say that my favourite dinosaurs were the raptors, and I loved the relationship with Owen no matter how unrealistic some people believe those scenes in the cage/at the end were (spoilers!). I think people forget they’re genetically created. I did read a funny article though, which joked that the raptors must have had their DNA spliced with some golden retriever because of their loyalty! But in any case, I was convinced. Or entertained at any rate 😉

Funny how people claim they’re unrealistic when the movie revolve around cloning/reviving dinosaurs. Then again, they did give Doctor Wu that speech about how the dinosaurs aren’t even real dinos. He pointed out that they would have looked different if the park owner wanted realism.

That’s true. I’d forgotten about that. It was an interesting point, and a lesson I think – though his own morals were questionable in the end. I think he just wanted to play God!

I think it did a nice job quelling the uproar about dinosaurs not having feathers in the movie. Simple and effective way to say ‘this still works’.

Wow, Sounds like a fun trip, Charles! You certainly needed that vacation! Now I can’t help imagining what would have happened if the information desk made a lost child announcement for your wife. 🙂
I hope you feel better soon. Don’t be hard on yourself for not getting to your notebooks during your time away.

She’d be angry, but I’d feel like I made my point. Honestly, it already feels like I’m back to last week’s stress levels. Seems every time I get away, life strives to hit me down again.

Sounds like a wonderful trip. I used to live in Connecticut and would visit Mystic routinely. Brought back memories.

Very cool. Nice place and I can see why people would be relaxed there. Though all the Routes and highway exits got me confused at times.

Oh your trip/anniversary escape sounded wonderful, Charles 🙂 I love being spoiled at a good bed and breakfast location. The one you described sounds luscious! Loved the pictures of the place and that picture of your special little one. He’s such a darling…but…take your time off, Charles, when it comes to you. You’ve worked very hard and deserve a bit of time to your own thoughts and self.
Welcome back.

First time at a place like that and is was definitely relaxing. Relaxed it wouldn’t work with a little kid though. He’d be a bit too rambunctious for the thin walls and ceilings of the room. As far as the time off, we’ll see how it goes. My main concerns are if the wife can handle things without me as backup and what I’m going to do for food. Not having a microwave or stove makes me think fast food is the main option.
